Fantastic Fundraising!

Children-in-needBake Sale

Last week saw some fantastic fund raising efforts in school.

Our Pupil Council organised our Dress Down Day for Children in Need, which raised a great total of £369.64!

Also, our P5 classes held a Bake Sale on Friday to raise funds for the Yard. P5 have been learning about this local organisation this term, and managed to raise an amazing sum of £253.10 for them!  I’m sure they’ll be very happy and grateful of P5’s efforts!

Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to these worthy causes! Don’t forget our PSA Christmas Cafe is happening very soon, on Friday 1st December, 11.30-1.30pm!

Super Swimmers!

This weekend saw a group of swimmers from P6 and P7 at Broughton take part in an Edinburgh Schools swimming competition.Daniel, Ruari, Greig, Innes, Eilidh and Mhairi represented the school, and gave their absolute best.

Daniel won 2 silver medals, Greig came 4th in the backstroke, and the relay team came 4th. The team also set lots of new personal best times. Well done to you all, and congratulations on representing yourselves, and the school, so succesfully!

Parent Drop-In

Drop in

Today was our first parent drop-in session of this year.

The school was very busy, as is usual for our drop-ins. We hope everyone enjoyed the chance to visit the school and see first hand all the great learning going on across the stages!

PSA Halloween Disco

Halloween

Our PSA Halloween Disco was held last Thursday in our Gym Hall!

The event was sold out! There was lots of fun to be had by all, with some amazing costumes, lots to eat and drink, and plenty of dancing!

The ticket sales alone raised £500, and with other sales on the night the final total raised towards school improvements is around £990!

What an amazing total! Thanks to the PSA for their organisation once again, and to all the parents, carers, staff and pupils who attended to make the event so successful!

Open Day

There was a city-wide open day on Thursday for parents of children who will start P1 next August. Mrs Rushforth gave a presentation, and there were contributions from our Pupil Council and House Captains. The House Captains also helped out during tours of the school. We received very positive feedback from our visitors, and would like to thank these 2 pupil groups for their contribution to this event! Here are some photos of the Pupil Council preparing for this, as well as the 2 groups presenting on the day.

The Pupil Council presented the things they like most about Broughton. These ideas have been collected into the graffiti wall you can see below-

The House Captains shared the things they think make Broughton unique- you can see their ideas here-

Harvest

We held our annual Harvest assembly this week. Once again we are very grateful for all the generous contributions towards our Harvest collection. We also need to thank our school House Captains, who came to school very early on Monday to help organise all the items donated!

All our donations have now been packed up and collected, to be distributed at our local foodback, the Broughton St Mary’s Church Foodbank. Huge thanks again to all who contributed!

Edinbugh Select Football Trials

Goal!

Each year trials are held to help create the Edinburgh Select Football squad. This squad of players is made up of pupils from schools across the city of Edinburgh.

Broughton sent 3 P7 pupils to try out for the squad- Harvey Chisholm, Greig McVicar and Alex Moir.

Greig and Harvey made it through to a second trial this week, and we are delighted that Harvey has been successful in being picked for the Select squad. He should be very proud of this great achievement!

We also are proud of Greig and Alex, for taking part in what was a very high standard of competition. Well done to you boys, and commiserations to you both!

As part of the squad, Harvey will be representing Edinburgh in the Inter-Region select competitions run by the Scottish Schools FA. There will be 3 of these 7 a-side competition days throughout the academic year 2017/18.

The first competition day is Tuesday 28th November in Glasgow.

We wish Harvey the best of luck and success with the squad!

thumbs up

Children In Need 2017

Children-in-need

This year’s Children in Need event takes place on Friday 17th November, and Broughton Primary will again be supporting this very worthwhile event.

Our Pupil Council have decided how we will help support this event- we will have a dress down day on Friday 17th November, with a contribution of £1 each for the privilege.

The Pupil Council have come up with two themes to choose from- ‘Wear something Yellow’ or ‘Black and White Sparkle.’

Children in Need will also be collecting any old £1 coins that recently went out of circulation- so check all pockets, down the back of your couch, cupboard drawers, jars, etc. and we will be collecting those on the day too to send off to this worthy cause.

We look forward to seeing some interesting outfits on the 17th!

Don’t forget those old pound coins!
