EMF logoNow that the dust has settled on another successful Edinburgh Marathon festival, please enjoy the photos below of Broughton’s participation. With around 115 children taking part, as well as many parents and staff, it really was a fantastic event!

Huge thanks to everyone who took part, with special thanks to Catriona and Sandra for their organisation of our involvement in the event. Congratulations to both too, as they deservedly won a National Scottish Parent award for all their efforts in organising Broughton’s participation in the EMF over the years. They attended a ceremony in Glasgow to accept their award. Well done ladies!

Entries for next year are now open! Let’s hope we can continue the success of the EMF next year, and beyond!

Games at the Hub

Games at the HubPrimary 6 again took part in the annual Games @HUB festival. This is a Primary 6 focused sports event that takes place at Forrester High School. This year the children participated in Rugby, Swimming and Dance. We had a great experience with the Rugby team finishing third out of eighteen schools, the swimmers being rewarded for showing great sportsmanship towards the other schools and the dancers performing to the hundreds of other children. The children from Broughton did us proud with great enthusiasm, effort and manners all day. Well done to all of those children who took part!

Health Week!

Healthy EatingNext week is Health Week! We have a range of interesting and exciting activities planned over the course of the week, including sports days, healthy eating workshops, a whole school picnic and  more. The Edinburgh Marathon festival this weekend will be a fitting start to the week long focus on health and wellbeing. We have around 113 children taking part!

Attached below is our Health Week passport. Each child will receive one of these. Over the following 2 weekends and Health week itself, can you see how many of the activities on the Health Passport you can complete? Complete the activity and then get your Parent/Carers to initial in the box next to the activity to say you have done it.
If you complete 5 or more of the activities, bring your passport back to school, hand it to your teacher and they will put it into the Health Week Prize draw which will be drawn at Assembly.
You could win an amazing prize of a space hopper (Nursery—P2) or a pogo stick (P3—P7)!

Good luck, and we hope you have lots of fun completing your passport!

‘Talk Things Over’ is the name of the next block in our ‘Building Resilience’ programme. In this unit, there are 3 main outcomes-
>At times we all feel worried
>If worries are not dealt with, they can sometimes get out of control
> If you are struggling, it is important to ask for help

Attached below is a leaflet for parents and carers about this unit. We have also attached the Home Activity related to this unit.

We hope you find these useful!

The Big Pedal- Final Update!

Big Pedal

Sustrans were in contact over the weekend saying they had finalised all finishing positions for The Big Pedal 2019.

Attached are screenshots of our finishing position in Edinburgh, Scotland and the UK.

In City of Edinburgh Council we placed 3rd!
In Scotland we placed 6th!
And in the UK we placed 36th out of 784!
All of these finishing positions are in the large primary school 5 day challenge section.

Once again a big well done and thank you to all who took part during the Big Pedal. A special thanks to the P5 Road Safety Group who did a fantastic job collecting data each day of the challenge. We should be proud of our whole school efforts!
