Our School Partnership with Tanzania!

Please see below a post from Miss Bishop, our LC1 teacher, sharing an amazing opportunity and adventure she experienced during the February holiday!

Broughton Primary has a new school partnership with Mboreni Primary School in Tanzania and I had the privilege of going to visit during the February break. I spent the week with other teachers from across Edinburgh making connections with our partner schools and learning about a different culture and education system.
This was a great opportunity, and the children, teachers and community were very welcoming. I took some gifts such as books and footballs which they were very grateful for and it was amazing to see how a school runs in a completely different country.
The focus of our partnership is global citizenship and sustainability at the moment and we look forward to sharing work between our schools.
In September, we hope that Mrs Chewa, head teacher of Mboreni primary can come to visit us at Broughton too.
Here are some photos from the best experience I have ever had!

House Art Club

House captain badgesToday was the first lunchtime Art Club, organised and run by House and Vice captains. It was McDonald house who kicked things off, and their house and vice captains planned a lovely activity called ‘Galaxy Art’ to practise paint blending skills. They were very well organised, demonstrated the activity well, and were great at supporting the children attending. I’m sure you’ll agree, the results are impressive! Well done to Harris, Isla, Holly and Kian!

It’s Pilrig house’s turn next Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing what Pilrig house can do!

P3-P7 Spelling Programme

Image result for Spelling

A number of parents have expressed an interest in knowing more about the approaches we use to teach spelling when children have completed the ‘Edinburgh Active Literacy Programme’.

We will therefore be offering a session for anyone who would like to attend at 4.30 – 5pm on Wednesday 26 February just before the Parent Consultations begin.  The session will be run by Mr Elliot Young, our Support for Learning Teacher who oversees the school programme.

In order to get an idea of numbers please can you let us know if you would like to attend the session by either handing in a note or emailing the school admin account at

Internet Safety Week

Image result for safer internet day 2020

Next Tuesday 11th February is Internet Safety Day, so this week we have been learning all about ways to keep safe online.

We discussed ways to keep safe online at Tuesday’s assembly, and all this week we have been learning more about safe and responsible internet use in our classes. Liam, Catriona and Hannah from P7b have been visiting classes all this week, to collect photos of this to update our class website pages. Huge thanks to them for managing this job!

Remember, the safety advice we are learning applies every day, not just Internet Safety Day!

Parent Consultations- Online Booking- February 2020

Small-Logo
Our next parent consultations are on Wednesday 26th February from 5pm-8pm, and Friday 28th February from 1pm-4pm.
Bookings can only be made from 6.30pm on Friday 7th February until 10am on Tuesday 25th February.
Appointments requiring an interpreter should be booked by Wednesday 19th February.

This post contains some instructions to help you book online, and an information letter.

Instructions

Navigate to the Parents’ Evening Booking System here
Use your personal information to log in. You must use the contact information which the school has on file or you will not be able to log in. If you are having problems, please use the contact information on the login page to contact the school.
Log in by selecting which child you want to make bookings for first. If you have more than one child who requires bookings, you can switch between them once you are logged in.
Once logged in, decide whether you need to make bookings individually, or using our Automated Booking Wizard (best if you have a number of bookings and students to make bookings for).
Once you have selected your preferred booking method and once in the correct parents’ evening, follow the relevant instructions from below:

Automated Booking Wizard :

Select the teacher you wish to book. You can press ‘Select All’ to select all options
If you have a second child to make bookings for then select their tab and repeat the teacher selecting process
Proceed to the bottom of the page and specify your personal availability, then press Make My Bookings For Me
If the wizard replies that bookings are not feasible, you have not left enough time and need to reduce the number of teachers or increase the amount of time you’re available.
Now see a list of your booking suggestions. Feel free to add comments to teachers you wish to book, if allowed.
Press Confirm to confirm these appointments as your bookings
Press Print or E-Mail to initiate your confirmation.

Individual Bookings:

Scroll down until you see the booking table. Above it are the departments and teachers which are available to you.
Select the department, then teacher, and click on an available time to make a booking. When you selected a time, you’re able to add any issues or comments for the teacher to take note of before the appointment.
Repeat this process, making bookings for all of the teachers you need to.

If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, click on the correct department and teacher, then click on the green appointment to change it.

If you need to make bookings for another child, scroll to the top of the page. In the top left corner you should see a ‘Make a Booking for Another Child’ icon. Click this. If there is no icon, the software does not recognise that you have multiple children. This just means that you’ll need to log out and log back in again using the other child’s details.

Once you have made all of your bookings, click on either E-Mail or Print my Appointments. Appointments are saved when they are made, so you don’t have to e-mail or print to ‘save’ them, but doing so will provide a confirmation with further information, possibly including rooms and instructions from the school.
