JRSO Launch Event

JRSO

Our P6 Junior Road Safety Officers attended a launch event at the City Chambers this week. Jedrzej and Claire were accompanied by Mr Horan, and had a brilliant time. They both took part in some excellent workshops and even managed a sneaky photo with Ziggy and Reducer! It was a great day and both JRSOs came back bursting with ideas. They have already carried out one of their roles, a survey about how pupils travel to school callled ‘Hands Up Scotland.’

We look forward to more fun events and information over the course of the year! Well done to both our JRSOs!

P5 Rugby Festival

rugby

Mrs Ramm took a team of P5 pupils to a rugby festival at Murrayfield stadium this week.

Our team had one win and one loss in the  first round, which put us through to the Plate competition. We then won one, lost one and drew one.

All the children had a great time, and were good ambassadors for our school!

Well done team, and thanks Mrs Ramm!

PSA Lunchtime Cafe

Our PSA are planning another of their very successful lunchtime cafes. This will be held on Friday 29th September from 12pm to 1.30pm in our Dining Hall.

A wide range of treats will be available, including hot dogs, soup, rolls, wraps, sandwiches, crisps, sweets, cakes and drinks.

Everyone is warmly invited! Our P7 pupils will be returning from school camp around that time, so why not pop in for some lunch while you are waiting for them to return?

If you can help, please let us know by emailing broughtonparents@gmail.com or by posting a message on the parent Facebook page at http://bit.ly/bps-parent-forum

Follow the links below to a poster advertising the event and a notice requesting donations of food for the event.

Primary School Flu Vaccination

flu vaccination needle immunization shot

Consent packs are out now for flu vaccination for pupils in P1-P7.

The flu nasal spray vaccine for primary school children helps to protect against flu. Flu is a virus; it spreads quickly and can infect children and adults very easily, causing an unpleasant illness which can be serious.

When you receive a consent form pack please complete and sign the consent form and return it to school as soon as possible.

More information about the programme can be found using the following link to the flu vaccination section on the Immunisation Scotland website.

Parent Council and Parent Staff Association

Your school needs you

Broughton Primary’s Parent Council and Parent Staff Association are holding their AGM in our school Dining Room on Tuesday 29th August from 6.30pm-8.30pm.

All parents and carers are welcome to attend. We will have the chance to discuss what’s happening in school, school improvements and forthcoming fund raising events.

We are lucky to have a very active Parent Council and PSA at Broughton. Their generous contributions have made a real impact on the experiences of our pupils. However, they need as many people to help them, so they can successfully run fund raising events. If you are interested in helping in any way at all, please come along to the AGM!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Eco-Committee

Eco School Logo

You may have noticed our 2 Eco-Schools Green flags- one flying from our flagpole in the playground and the other hanging in our central stairwell. These flags reward the quality and range of eco-friendly activities we carry out at Broughton, and this status needs to be reguarly applied for with a range of evidence.

Miss Wilson, our staff eco-rep, has confirmed that our application for renewal of our Green Flag status has been approved! Well done to all for their successful eco work, and many thanks to Miss Wilson for organising the evidence and putting together our application.

We look forward to continuing all our good work this year!

PE kit

IMG_0744

Mrs Ramm, our PE teacher, has provided a photo of a good example of what pupils can bring in to wear during PE lessons. This can be a change of t-shirt, shorts and sports shoes. Having a PE kit is very important for the children, so they can participate in PE activities dressed appropriately and comfortably. We kindly ask that all pupils are provided with a PE kit, to be kept in school for convenience. Thanks!

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back

A warm welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a relaxing holiday, and are ready to start a new school year!

As always, we hope that our website helps you to keep up with all the latest news and events that are happening at Broughton. We want to make sure we can offer as much help and information as possible, so if you have any suggestions, just visit ‘Contact Us’ to see how you can be in touch with us.

One section of our website we are particularly proud of, is the ‘Class Information’ section, where each class has their own page. Here you can find examples of class newsletters, homework challenges, details about class trips and evidence of the learning in class. These pages currently still have last year’s class information, but they will be updated for this year’s classes soon!

Book Festival

One of the first exciting events that many classes will be experiencing next week, are visits to the Edinburgh International Book Festival. If your child(ren)’s class(es) are attending, can you please make sure you have returned the necessary consent forms to the class teacher(s) before the visit, as it is essential we have all the correct details they contain. Also, if you are able to accompany the class as an adult helper, please let the teacher know too! Some teachers may be sending reminders home this week, so look out for them. We’re sure these visits will be interesting for everyone!

Let’s have a great year everyone!

Happy Holidays!

School's Out

We’ve reached the end of another busy session at Broughton Primary School! It’s been such a productive time, with lots of success to celebrate and quality learning experiences for all our pupils!

It’s at this time of year we say goodbye to our P7 pupils- we’d like to wish them all the very best of luck and happiness for their future as they move on to secondary school! We like to make a special fuss of P7 in their final week to give them a good send off, and here are some pictures of some of these memory making events!

P7 BBQ

Unfortunately, the weather put paid to our plan to have our P7 BBQ at Botanical Broughton. We didn’t let that dampen our spirits though, and held the event in our Gym Hall instead. The hall was decorated for P7, and there were games, dancing and singing from everyone. Everyone seemed to have a good time!

Last Day of Term

P7 spent the first part of the day with the traditional signing of their P7 hoodies and jumpers. This also allows them to say goodbye to their younger peers, as well as giving them a special keepsake of their time at Broughton!

Leavers’ Assembly

We held a special leavers assembly in our Gym to say goodbye and good luck to our P7s as a school. It can be a very emotional time for the pupils, as they are presented with their leaving gifts and a Yearbook. Each of the P7s have a chance to get an individual round of applause to send them to high school with the best wishes of the school!

House Winners

Our House Captains announce our final House Point totals for the year at the last Assembly. The final totals were the highest ever, with McDonald being crowned House Winners, but it was very close- they only won by 15 points! Final totals below-

1st McDonald  14 363 points

2nd Trinity  14 348 points

3rd Pilrig  14 208 points

4th Drummond  14 105 points

Well done McDonald!

Piper

The final celebration of the day was when the P7 pupils were piped out of the school. All the classes lined the stairs to clap as P7 left the school, accompanied by Louise, the  fantastic piper.

We hope you had a memorable last day P7, and have happy memories of your time at Broughton- all the best for the future!

Staffing

We also have some staff to say goodbye to. Moving on to pastures new are Ms Ferguson, Ms Wagstaff, Mrs Thomson and Ms McGilvary. We’d like to thank them for all their hard work and support, for all they have contributed to our school, and wish them all the very best for the future!

We welcome Ms Vacher to our school next session, as our new Acting Depute Head Teacher. Also, Mrs Rabbi and Ms Kobus will be joining our PSA team. Also joining us will be 3 newly qualified teachers, Ms Cunnigham, Ms Notarangelo and Ms Ioannou. We look forward to working with you all, and wish you a happy time at Broughton!

And finally…..

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their contributions to our school this year. All our pupils, staff, parents and carers, have a very happy, healthy, safe and restful summer break! Let’s hope the sun shines, and we’ll see you again on Wednesday 16th August!

Happy summer 2
