Our Digital Cyber Captains have been busy collecting different media to share on our website.

Elodie and Evie took some great photos of P7 creating shadow puppets to use in a puppet show task.

Leith Chooses and Tesco Stronger Starts- Reminder!

Leith Chooses online voting now OPEN:  anyone over the age of 8 years old, works, lives, studies or volunteers in Leith can vote: https://www.leithchooses.net/eithchooses-voting-2025/  Online voting closes 3 Feb, please vote for:

1) Leith Chooses – ‘Welcome’ Mural, £3,494

The Parent Council has submitted a funding application to Leith Chooses to update the welcoming mural at the top playground as well as provide more green planters.  The mural will unite Leith by representing our school community where over 40 languages are spoken.

2) Leith Chooses – Junior Parkrun in Pilrig Park, £4,800 

Led by a Broughton parent, the “Leith Runs Together” group is aiming to start a Junior Parkrun in Pilrig Park. This will fit nicely with the Broughton Primary Edinburgh Marathon Festival (EMF) train and run together sessions for all our #broughtonrunners.  #gobroughton!

3) Tesco Stronger Starts  – P1/2s outdoors clothing, £1,500, in person voting now opens!

The Parent Council submitted this Tesco Grant application for waterproof clothing to support the P1/2s Forest Schools on Fridays.  Use your blue token to vote for us, at any of the following stores:

Before Christmas Ayeesha put on a show with her Dance and Theatre Class. In one of the dances, she was dressed up as a Flintstone! Ayeesha also received a certificate for her gymnastics and has progressed to the next stage. Great achievements Ayeesha!

February Holiday Opportunities- ASN

Dear Parent/Carers,

Active Schools Edinburgh are excited to share with you our upcoming February ASN programme of activities. These activities include swimming, cycling and multi-sport opportunities across different areas of Edinburgh. This programme of activities is specifically designed for pupils with a learning difficulty, learning disability or Autism. Please see the attached booklet which highlights the specific age and ability groupings for each activity.  Our coaches and teachers will provide an opportunity for your child to learn new skills but most importantly we aim for them to have fun while taking part in sport and physical activity. When signing up please select the ability level appropriate for your child where appropriate. 

Please note bookings will open on Wednesday 8th January. 

We expect these to book up very quickly and will create a waiting list for those that don’t manage to get a space. Embracing Difference Workshops

Embracing Difference is a 6-session recorded group for parents of primary aged
children who are neurodivergent or present with developmental divergence.
The group aims to provide parents with up-to-date information and strategies to
support their child, to optimise their learning and reduce distress. It The also offers
strategies to support parental self-care and wellbeing.
Embracing Difference draws from current research and evidence-based practice to
provide information on how to support children who are neuro-divergent.
Each week focusses on a different area and provides strategies and information for
parents to use with their child, in order to support them to flourish.

Session 2: Communication

Session 3: Sensory issues & sleep

Session 4: Social emotional skills

Session 5: Supporting behaviour

Session 6: Celebrating difference

Big Book of Achievements

Toby Sewell and Alexander McCloy (P4a) have earned their black stripe belt in Taekwondo, which means they have achieved all the grades in Active Tigers and are now working towards the UKTC group! Great effort from you both!

Rhys Owain McLaren (P3a) attended the Beauty and the Beast pantomime at the Festival Theatre. The panto was being filmed for BBC and Rhys can be seen in the audience on the recording. We now have our very own TV star at Broughton!

Robin Cohen (P4a) was presented with a ‘Living Our Values’ award 2024 from Spartans FC for Respect throughout the year. The coaches said,” He is always respectful to teammates and coaches, always listening to instructions, taking everything in and trying his hardest.” He received his award from one of the first team players at Spartans FC. Well done Robin!

Jerreline Law, Vicky Flores Diaz, Valentina Ortega Jureckova (P4a), Carly Law and Maya Osae-Brown (P6a) performed at the Edinburgh Piano Christmas Showcase 2024. Their piano teacher said they were all outstanding! Excellent work from you all!
