Broughton sent a team to the annual Edinburgh Schools Swimming and Diving Gala, held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

We had a very successful morning! All 3 of our teams swam their very best, were enthusiastic and great sports.

The freestyle team were 7th in their heat, while our breaststroke team qualified for their final and ended up finishing 7th in their final.

However, our backstroke team had the best result! They won their heat by a mile, and stormed to victory in the final, winning by over 5 seconds! The team won a gold medal each for their brilliant victory, and were presented with their medals on the podium, just like in the Commonwealth or Olympic Games!

Here are our team members-

Amy, Callum, Jess, Mhairi, Innes, Zuzanna, Ines, Eilidh, Roisin, Louis, Daisy, Yaseen and Jed.

Well done to the whole team for excellent participation and behaviour! You did Broughton proud!

Thanks and praise must also go to Mrs Ramm our PE and swimming specialist, who prepared the team so well for this event!

Well Done 3

Sustrans Superhero Day

Image result for superhero day

This Friday 5th April we’d love our pupils to be involved in Sustran’s Superhero Day by dressing as their favourite Super Hero.

Dressing up is completely optional and not compulsory. This gives every child the chance to be involved in the Big Pedal, even if they don’t cycle, walk or scoot to school. This will also mark the end to the Big Pedal 2019.

PSA Health Café- Urgent Appeal For Help!

keep-calm-your-school-needs-you-1

Please see below for a message, and a flyer from our PSA concerning the planned PSA Health Café next Friday. We are in urgent need of adult volunteers and soup makers, or the café may need to be cancelled! Any help you can give will be brilliant!

Hello everyone,

Our last PSA Cafe of this school year is our Health Cafe, next Friday 5th April from 11:30am-1:30pm in the lunch hall.

In order for the event to run safely we require:
• 6 adult volunteers to help with set up from 9-11am;
• 6 adult volunteers to help with running the cafe from 11-12:30
• 6 adult volunteers to help from 12:30-2pm.
• If you are able to make a batch of healthy soup to bring along on the 5th that would be greatly appreciated.
We have two soup urns and the vegetable based soup is always popular.
This cafe our P6 and P7 children will be receiving a plate home to fill with healthy goodies for the cafe. These can be brought into school from 8:30-9am on Friday 5th April.

If you can help with soup or volunteering please email broughtonparents@gmail.com so that we can get in touch next week.

This year all proceeds from the cafe will be funding the school’s Health Week activities including, but not limited to: The Barrow band; a healthy eating workshop; Kidz Fit; a pogo stick/ scooter as a prize for completing a healthy passport.

Many thanks

The Big Pedal continued…

Big Pedal

Here it is, the evidence that we’re doing so well with the nationwide Big Pedal challenge!

Big Pedal

We’re currently 26th out of over 500 schools, with about 83% of our school community getting to school under their own steam, either walking, cycling or coming by scooter!

The school has really responded well to this challenge, let’s see if we can improve on our position as the challenge goes on!

WOW

The Big Pedal 2019
