We decided to revamp our House Shields, as it has been a few years since they were created. This year’s House Captains launched a school wide competition to design new shields for our 4 houses.
There were many, many entries for our House and Vice captains to judge. Here they are in the middle of their judging- if you look closely you can see the strain in their faces at the difficult task they had in choosing a winner…
However, they did eventually pick 4 new designs, and we’re proud to share them now!
Well done to everyone who entered, it was a really tough decision for the House and Vice captains to make. So, in no particular order, here are the shields that will represent the 4 houses.

Well done to our talented winners! You should be very proud!

On November 26th a group of our P6 and P7 pupils, selected by our PE teacher Mrs Ramm, went to the Jack Kane Centre to an inter-schools athletics event.
10 schools took part in total, and we came a close 5th on the day. We took part with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, and Mrs Ramm and our adults who accompanied the group were very proud of our team.
Well done to all, here are some video clips of our team in action!

Over the past couple of months, our P6 classes have been learning songs to allow them to take part in a very special concert, held at the Queen’s Hall on Monday night, called Winter’s Night.
The P6s performed alongside children from 4 other schools on Monday. They spent all day at the Queen’s Hall rehearsing their performances, and then performed for parents and carers in the evening.
We are incredibly proud of all our pupils! They did so well to learn their songs, they performed them all beautifully, and they stayed focused right through what was a very long day for them. Huge congratulations, and massive thanks to the show organisers, and the class teachers for helping this amazing opportunity happen! Thanks also to any of our parents and carers who were able to come along to the show and support us!

The Edinburgh Schools Swimming Championships were held earlier this term. Broughton pupils attended, and the team had some successful results! Eilidh Noronha from P7b came first in the Backcrawl and Jedrzej Przychodzki from P7b came 6th in the Freestyle!
Because of these results, both Eilidh and Jedrzej have qualified for the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships which will take place in Glasgow at the Tollcross Pool on Saturday 26th January!
What an exciting achievement! We wish them both the best of luck!

A group of Broughton pupils attended the Active Schools Day of Dance last Saturday. There were a few nervous faces backstage but once the performance was over, everyone realised how much fun they had had!
Please see the link below to see the photos that were taken (Broughton photos can be seen on page 5).
Well done to all the brave dancers who took part! Thanks to the organisers and coaches involved in the Active Schools Dance Programme, who are looking to do a smaller show at Broughton High School next term. We’re sure our dancers will be ready for the next challenge!

We have had a great season to date and ended on a high with an amazing 9-5 goal-tastic win over Flora Stevenson’s at the weekend.
With the brilliant support of Don, our parent coach, our P7s have trained hard every week since late August. The move to Drummond’s flood lit Astro turf once the dark nights arrived was funded by the PSA and we are grateful for the support.
The P7 squad work hard, have fun and support each other as a team. We have a great little community, with parents cheering the team on each Saturday morning and the children are a credit to the school.
As we head into winter, we’ll be having a break now until February, but are looking forward to getting our boots and blue strips on come Spring to represent Broughton Primary again.
We really hope some of our P4s, P5s and P6s are interested so that we can continue into 2019 with more Broughton Primary football teams. It relies on parent/carer helpers, but Don can help explain what is involved. Get in touch if you want to know more via the School Office.
Well done team!

Children in Need was last Friday, and Broughton once again took part in this worthwhile cause. Our Pupil Council decided that we would have a Dress Down Day for a donation to Children in Need. The theme was ‘Wear something spotty or yellow’ and there were lots of fantastic outfits on display! The Pupil Council also wanted us to mark the occasion by having a dance-a -thon. So each class held a dance movement break at 11am on Friday- lots of fun!
As a school we raised £235.85! Thanks to all who donated! Here are some pictures of some of our spotty, yellow pupils in action during their dance-a-thons!
