Our fanastic Broughton Runners have been meeting regularly to train and prepare for this year’s festival. Every Sunday the sun has shone for their training sessions, and their last fun run is this weekend. Below are some photos and videos of our team, taken during their training sessions- looks like lots of fun!

The Big Pedal and Parent Drop-In

Image result for sustrans big pedal 2018

Today was the Big Pedal-the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting challenge that inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school. Our Junior Road Safety Officers have been encouraging as many pupils and parents as possible to take part. Whether it was by scooter or bike, we certainly had a lot of traffic in our playground this morning!

Today the JRSOs carried out a survey of how many people took up the Big Pedal challenge, and 183 people took part! That’s a great effort!

We’ll find out soon how our number compares with others around Edinburgh and the UK, so keep a look out for an update!

Parent Drop-In

Today we also held another Parent Drop-in. A chance for our parents and carers to pop in and spend some time in class to catch up on some of the fantastic learning happening in school. The school was buzzing with activity, and it was lovely to see so many visitors around the school! We hope you enjoyed your visit!

Bookmark Competition

Bookmarks

During Book Week last term, we held a Bookmark competition. Many children created a range of lovely bookmarks to enter, and the Pupil Council had a very hard job when they judged the winners!

After deliberating long and hard, they finally came up with a winner for each of the age categories. They were…

P1-P2- Harrison Hood from P1b

P3-P4- Conor Colhoun from P4b

P5-7- Holly Bartholomew from P5a

Well done to our very talented winners! Harrison received a lovely new book, and both Conor and Holly received a Book Token! Prizes well worth entering for! Thanks also to everyone who entered- the Pupil Council had a tough job!

Here are some photos of our skillful judges, and the winning bookmarks!

Respect Me!

respectme_logo

Through discussion, during Anti-Bullying week, Primary 6a decided that respect for each other was a key element to combat bullying. We discussed and explored what respect for each other looks like and sounds like in our school. Ultimately, we created this video to share what we believe respect for each other is like at Broughton Primary School.

Well done to P6a!

We must also thank the school Vice- Captains and House Captains, who helped to set up the cafe and with running stalls and serving customers. They were enthusiastic, helpful and a real credit to the school! 10 house points each!

Cross Country Event

Cross Country Runners

Last Friday 20th April, our school Cross Country representatives took part in the EPSSA Cross Country event at Inverleith Park. Four races took place- P6 girls, P6 boys, P7 girls and P7 boys.

Over 200 children took part in each race and all our children ran their best.

A special mention goes to Daniel Ritchie P7 who came in in 21st place! We had 2 top 50 placed P6 boys, Nathan Fortune in 42nd place and Innes Penman who medalled in 10th Place.

3 girls were in the top 100 of the P7 girls event, but our best placed girl who medalled was Eilidh Noronha who was 3rd overall in the P6 girls event. Mhairi Noronha came in 17th place.

Well done to all the children who represented Broughton in a very sporting manner. You were a credit to our school!
