We are very sad that James and Elisha will not be joining us next term. James is going to a new school and Elisha is moving on to high school. We will miss them both very much and know that they will miss their friends at Broughton too. James and Elisha came to say goodbye to the adults and are excited about this new chapter in their lives. We wish them lots of good luck!

This term LC2 have been learning about Ancient Egypt. We have looked at Farming, Housing, Clothing, Temples, Tombs, Mummies. We have made masks of Tutankhamun and learnt about his life. We made Papyrus paper and decorated it with petals and leaves. We also made tombs for the mummies and learnt about what the Egyptian people believed. It has been a great topic with lots of opportunities for the pupils to take part in cross-curricular activities.

Meet The Teacher presentation 2019-LC

The LC1 and LC2 had a picnic to celebrate the end of term and a good year. We made lots of our own snacks to share with our families and had fun playing together at Pilrig Park.

Our topic this term is ‘Sustainable Living and Planet Earth’ we went to the ‘Water of Leith’ visitor centre and took part in a great day looking at Active Citizens and Sustainable Rivers. We took nets down to the river and did some river dipping to see what lives in the river. We brought back some of the creatures we found to look under a microscope. We found a bullhead fish, water louse, mayfly nymph. The river looks dirty but the water is very clean because there was a lot of creatures living in it. We looked under rocks, stones and wood to see if we could find some minibeasts. We found lots of interesting things! It was a really good trip and we learnt new and interesting facts about the ‘Water of Leith’.

Our topic work included making a 3D map of our local area. We have also been doing a Forces topic and have been studying, gravity, resistance and buoyancy. For Book Week, we enjoyed the Anthony Browne books and made worry dolls like the ones in Silly Billy and a door mural showing trees enjoying the author’s books.

We made Viking bread which was very heavy and didn’t taste very nice. The class also made Longships and shields.

The LC1 and LC2 had our LC Summer Picnic this week and everybody had a great time. We made some delicious snacks for the picnic in class. All of our parents and carers came along to join us at Botanical Broughton. We played some parachute games, did sports activities, ate a lovely picnic and got medals! We had lots of fun!
