P1/2 had a fantastic time exploring Craigmillar Castle. We made great history detectives, using the clues we could see to guess what different parts of the castle might have been used for. Highlights for the children included looking out from the top of the keep, the dungeon, the great hall, seeing the arrow slits and playing in the grounds.

P1/2 enjoyed meeting Medieval Knight Sir William Carmichael as part of our topic on castles. They asked lots of great questions. They also had a chance to feel some of his armour and try out holding his sword.

As part of our Five Senses topic, our P1s were lucky enough to have a visit from two specialists in the Deaf Team. We got to try on goggles that showed us what it was like to  experience different types of visual impairment and handle Braille books. Gail showed us a model of the inside of our ear and we got to try out different hearing aids, and Carol taught us some British Sign Language. It was a very interesting morning and we all really enjoyed this hands on experience. A big thank you to Gail and Carol!

P1/2 had a fantastic time on their trip to St Marks Park, where we put out our bird feeders and took part in an object hunt. We especially enjoyed see the birds and playing in the play park. On our return to school we used our experiences to make suggestions of how we might improve the park.
