It’s been a busy time recently at Broughton- here are some of our latest updates-
World Book Day
Thursday 3rd March was World Book Day. As usual, we entered into the spirit of the day, and there were so many amazing costumes showing characters from our favourite books. As well as dressing up, we gave out World Book Day vouchers, which can be used at the visiting Book Fair next week. There were also a range of reading and literacy activites across the school to mark the day. Well done to all!
Sporting Events
Our P7 Basketball team took part in the Edinburgh Schools Basketball Finals at Meadowbank Stadium on Monday 7th March. Although we didn’t win, we played well in 3 hard fought matches. Just getting to the final means we are in the top 8 basketball teams in the city! A great achievement!
Mrs Ramm will be taking our Cross Country team to the annual Edinburgh Schools event on Monday 14th March, and Mr Borthwick will be taking our Swimming team to the annual Edinburgh Schools Gala at the Commonwealth Pool on Wednesday 23rd March. Good luck to both teams, results and pictures to follow!
Euro Quiz
As announced recently, our P6 Euro Quiz team represented the school so well at the City Chambers on Wednesday 2nd March. We received our result this week, and we came in 10th out of around 25 schools! Well done team!
Diversity Event at Drummond High School
Drummond High School held an event celebrating Diversity on Thursday 10th March. As well as an International Market Place supported by a range of local businesses and a series of workshops, pupils from Broughton were in attendance as part of a show. Members of P6a and our Musical Theatre group both participated, showing great confidence and talent in their performances! Well done to all who gave their time and efforts to make this such a success!
PSA and Parent Council
Our PSA and Parent Council met on Wednesday 2nd March. Please visit our ‘Parent Bodies‘ section of the website for the latest minutes and newsletter.
Excursions
There have been some interesting excursions recently, and there are more to come before the Easter holidays. P5 have been to the National Museum, P2 have used generous PSA Cultural Funding to help support a visit to Craigmillar Castle, and P4 have been visiting the Royal Mile as part of their work on Old Edinburgh. As always, keep checking class pages in the ‘Class Information‘ section for latest news and pictures of what our classes have been learning!
