PSA Spring Disco

Spring-Disco-featured

Our PSA Spring Disco was held recently in our Gym Hall. Looks like everyone who came had a lot of fun, and we’re delighted to say that around £400 was raised for PSA funds to support the school.

Thanks to everyone who helped organise this event, volunteered to help out, or helped with tidying up at the end! Also, thanks to everyone who attended.

Here are some photos and clips we’d like to share!

Pupil Council- Red Nose Day!

Red Nose Day 2019

The Pupil Council met today to judge the entries in the ‘Design a Red Nose’ competition.

There were 3 groups- Nursery-P2, P3-P4 and P5-P7.

The judges had a difficult job, as there were lots of very good entries…

The winning entries are below. Well done to our winners! We hope you enjoy wearing your prize tomorrow!

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition! It was hard for the Pupil Council to judge! We look forward to seeing the school decked out in red tomorrow.

Leith Chooses Success!

Leith Chooses

Last Wednesday we heard from Leith Chooses, that alongside our partners of Saheliya, Leith Walk Primary School PC, and Drummond Community High School PC,  our Parent Council has received funding of £3910 for our project concerning planting, harvesting, cooking and learning about food.

Thanks once again to everyone who voted or helped in the run up to the voting day! A first meeting about this activity is now being organised to help with its planning. We need some more volunteers to help carry out project planning. If you could like to become more involved planning towards this project, please contact ‘Broughton Parents’ at broughtonparents@gmail.com

Well done and huge thanks to everyone involved in this successful project!

Parents Evening Online Booking System

Small-Logo

You are invited to make appointments for the school’s next parents’ evening, online.
Our parents’ evenings are on Wednesday 27th March from 5pm-8pm, and Friday 29th March from 1pm-4pm.

Bookings can be made from 7pm on Tuesday 12th March until 10am on Tuesday 26th March. Appointments requiring an interpreter should be booked by Wednesday 20th March.

This post contains some instructions to help you book online, and an information letter.

Instructions
Navigate to the Parents’ Evening Booking System here.
Use your personal information to log in. You must use the contact information which the school has on file or you will not be able to log in. If you are having problems, please use the contact information on the login page to contact the school.
Log in by selecting which child you want to make bookings for first. If you have more than one child who requires bookings, you can switch between them once you are logged in.
Once logged in, decide whether you need to make bookings individually, or using our Automated Booking Wizard (best if you have a number of bookings and students to make bookings for).
Once you have selected your preferred booking method and once in the correct parents’ evening, follow the relevant instructions from below:
Automated Booking Wizard
Select the teacher you wish to book. You can press ‘Select All’ to select all options
If you have a second child to make bookings for then select their tab and repeat the teacher selecting process
Proceed to the bottom of the page and specify your personal availability, then press Make My Bookings For Me
If the wizard replies that bookings are not feasible, you have not left enough time and need tp reduce the number of teachers or increase the amount of time you’re available.
Now see a list of your booking suggestions. Feel free to add comments to teachers you wish to book, if allowed
Press Confirm to confirm these appointments as your bookings
Press Print or E-Mail to initiate your confirmation.
Individual Bookings: Scroll down until you see the booking table. Above it are the departments and teachers which are available to you.
Select the department, then teacher, and click on an available time to make a booking. When you selected a time, you’re able to add any issues or comments for the teacher to take note of before the appointment.
Repeat this process, making bookings for all of the teachers you need to.
If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, click on the correct department and teacher, then click on the green appointment to change it.
If you need to make bookings for another child, scroll to the top of the page. In the top left corner you should see a ‘Make a Booking for Another Child’ icon. Click this. If there is no icon, the software does not recognise that you have multiple children. This just means that you’ll need to log out and log back in again using the other child’s details.
Once you have made all of your bookings, click on either E-Mail or Print my Appointments. Appointments are saved when they are made, so you don’t have to e-mail or print to ‘save’ them, but doing so will provide a confirmation with further information, possibly including rooms and instructions from the school.

Here is a link to the information letter-  Parent Appointment Online Booking Letter

If you have any problems booking appointments, please contact the school.

thank you

Red Nose Day 2019

Red Nose Day 2019

Red Nose Day is on Friday March 15th. The Pupil Council have decided they’d like to mark the day with the following activities-
Dress Up/Down Day– For a donation of £1, dress up or down for a uniform free day, wearing as much red as you can. Add a hat, wig or deely boppers for more impact. The Red Nose Day website has masks available for download too that can be worn. Follow this link-

Red Nose Day downloads
– The children would like some Red Nose Day activities available as part of Together Time that day. They have asked the teachers if they can provide various colouring activities, wordsearches or other Red Nose themed puzzles for that day.
Design a Red Nose Competition– there will be 3 categories, Nursery-P2, P3-P4, and P5-P7. The children must design a new Red Nose character, being as creative as they can. Designs can be 2D drawings or paintings, or 3D models. Anyone interested can ask their teacher for a template for a 2D entry, if they like. Entries must be handed in to Mr Borthwick by Monday 11th March, and they will be judged by the Pupil Council.

Red Noses

We’re looking forward to celebrating this event, and hopefully raising some money for a very worthy cause.

EuroQuiz

Euro QuizThis week we sent a team of 4 P6 pupils to represent Broughton at the annual Edinburgh Schools heat of the Euro Quiz , held at the City Chambers. Matthew, Catriona, Holly and Tilda had to answer questions on European geography, languages, sport, culture and history, to name but a few. They were excellent ambassadors for the school, showed great enthusiasm, and had great fun! There were around 25 different schools taking part, and the winning school would attend the National Final later in the year. We’re delighted to say we came in 5th, with a score of 38 points out of a possible 55! This is our best ever placing at the Euro Quiz, so huge congratulations to the team for all the hard work you put in to preparing for this! We’re very proud of you!

Pupil Council- Craze of the Week!

Craze_of_the_week_zone_Sign

This week our Pupil Council introduced a new feature in our playground- Craze of the Week!

Each week there will be a different craze in our playground, located wherever the ‘Craze of the Week’ sign is. The Pupil Council are on a rota to set up the resources required, supervise this area, and tidy up after for whatever ‘craze’ is on that week. The Pupil Council came up with a list of many possible crazes, but we decided to make a rota of 5 to begin with, to reduce the time people have to wait for their favourites.

The 5 crazes they chose were-

  • Fidget Toys
  • Hopscotch
  • Hula Hoop games
  • Chalk Pictures
  • Quiet Reading

Each day the Pupil Council will also have a jotter with them, recording how many children are attending, and any feedback from the children. This will allow them to consider if any crazes need to be changed, or if there are any particular resource ideas for the future.

This week our launch craze was Fidget Toys. It proved very popular, and the children recorded some very positive feedback. Already the Pupil Council have some suggestions to think about, and some ideas for new toys to add.

The resources for each of these crazes have been very kindly funded by our PSA. Thanks so much for your generous support!

thank you

Here are a few photos of our first week. Let’s hope next week’s ‘Hopscotch’ craze is as enjoyable!
