Monday 25th May

Happy Sunny Monday (@happysunnyMon) | Twitter

Hello everyone, and a happy, sunny Monday to you!

We all hope you had a nice weekend. Welcome to our (amended) Health Week!

Our original plan was to launch our Health Week with the annual Edinburgh Marathon Festival at the weekend. Even though it was postponed, many pupils, parents, carers and staff attempted a run anyway! If you’ve not already viewed our school and the bpsrunners Twitter feeds, they have lots of videos and pictures of the various runs undertaken! We’ve also had some photos sent in to school, they’re in the slideshow below!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As part of Health Week, a virtual Sports Day has been planned by some of our Broughton staff! Huge thanks to them for their ideas! A letter with information, score sheets and instructions is attached below!

Broughton Sports Day- May 2020

Because of Sports Day, there won’t be any new Maths or Literacy uploaded tomorrow- this is a good opportunity to concentrate on the Sports, or do some of the Health and Wellbeing activities that have been added to your weekly home learning grids!

Miss Clark has shared a very extensive resource, aimed at developing wellbeing through sport. It may be useful for any children who are missing sports clubs that they usually attend and gives lovely clear instructions for the activities.

Wellbeing Through Sport Activities

This weekend was also special for our Muslim families, who were celebrating Eid. Mrs Iqbal, one of our Nursery staff, has prepared some lovely Eid activities we’re delighted to share!

Eid Activity Ideas from Mrs Iqbal

Starting today, every stage in school has an account set up for Office 365, and has access to Microsoft Teams! We’re going to re-post our support materials and videos in a separate post later today, to give some help and advice when using Teams. Look out for this later!

Finally for today, Mrs Gowans has written a newsletter to share with the school. You can find it below.

Head Teacher Newsletter- May 2020

That’s all folks! Have a good day, and we hope you enjoy Sports tomorrow! Have a good Health Week!

As always, stay safe!

Oops, of course, I meant to say ‘the Hub school at Drummond’, but you know what I meant!

Something new to add to today’s update that has happened after the video was recorded, is that we now have a special area of our website, specifically for information around Transition. There are 2 areas, one for Nursery to P1 Transition, and one for P7 to S1 Transition.

You can access it by following these directions-

On our website home page, click on ‘Our School’ and select ‘Transition’ from the drop-down menu.

We are in the process of adding any relevant information we have or are sent to these pages.

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!

Wednesday 20th May

Miskin Radio - Good morning on another gorgeous sunny... | Facebook

Hello everybody, and a happy, sunny Wednesday to you all!

Just a short post today, as we hope you’ll all get a chance to get outside to enjoy today’s lovely weather! Don’t forget to try and get some home learning done too though!

Mrs Martin has sent us another lovely update of some Art ideas. Today, she’s encouraging you to create Art using things you might find in the environment. It’s a lovely day to go collecting some of the things she suggests, and you could keep them safe for a day when it’s not so sunny and create something amazing! The link to her ideas is below.

Environmental Art Ideas

Speaking of Artwork, we were sent a lovely piece of Art we just had to share on our website. Poppy from P2 has been busy, and has created this beauty- allow us to introduce to you….Mrs Love Bear! Thanks Poppy, she looks brilliant, and so colourful!

Image-1

Don’t forget it’s not too late to send in any photos of School Uniform Day last Friday, or any other photos you’d like us to share here! Email them to our admin address, your class teacher, Mr Borthwick, or do what Poppy’s Mum did and send it to our Twitter feed! We’d love to see them.

Don’t forget we’ve not forgotten about the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, that was due to happen this weekend. You can still get involved, whether you were signed up or not. All you need to do is run, and anything you can manage is fine. Then share your pics and a few words. You could use the school Facebook group, or send them here for the school website. Feel free to tweet if you’re on Twitter and tag @bpsrunners @MrHairyHaggis and @Broughton_PS

Just a reminder that EMF was going to kick start our Health Week, which will obviously be a bit different than usual! Keep an eye on the website, for details of a lockdown sports day, and other health and wellbeing activities through your home learning next week.

That’s all for today folks. Enjoy the sunshine, but don’t forget to put sun cream on, and drink plenty of water!

Take care, and, as always, stay safe!

Tuesday 19th May

Happy Tuesday - YouTube

Hello everyone, and a happy Tuesday to you all!

We hope you enjoyed your long weekend, and are ready for another week of home learning.

Miss Clark is certainly doing her best to provide ideas for emotional support at this challenging time! Today she’d like to share a resource that provides sentence starters to support children who are struggling to verbalise their feelings at this time. It may be particularly useful where children are expressing extra anger or anxiety but aren’t putting it into words.

Sentence Starters to talk about feelings

Here’s a link to a lovely article featuring one of our Language Class pupils. He and his family are hoping to cycle 273 miles (the equivalent of Edinburgh to John O’Groats!) during the lockdown to raise money for NHS charities. We are very proud of them, and wish them the best of luck in their challenge!

Cycling Challenge

Last Friday was ‘School Uniform Day’ where across the city, pupils were wearing their school uniform to do their home learning. Here are a couple of Broughton pupils taking part that we’ve been sent so far. If you took part, we’d love to see you in your uniform. It’s not too late to send on a photo!

This coming weekend should have been the annual Edinburgh Marathon Festival, and the chance for our amazing Broughton Runners to take part in what is always a brilliant event. Although the EMF is postponed, you can still take part, of sorts! If you had signed up to take part in one of the races, or even if you hadn’t, we’d encourage you to take part anyway! You could run around your living room, your garden, or your local park (observing social distancing obviously!) We’d love you to send us photos of your run, so we can celebrate them on our website and Twitter.

The EMF was also going to be the launch of our annual Health Week, this year themed ‘Olympic Week.’ We can’t have our traditional Sports Days, but do have plans for a Lockdown version of this, and we’ll be sending out more information about this soon. Look out for more Health and Wellbeing type activities in next week’s home learning grids too.

P1-P3 will be using Microsoft Teams to share their learning, starting next Monday 25th May. Parents and carers of our P1-P3 children should look out for an email later this week with usernames, passwords and advice to help you get started with this.

Lastly, our never ending Twitter Quiz continues to baffle with our Throwback photos of staff as youngsters. We hope you’re enjoying the daily challenge!

That’s all for today folks. As always, stay safe!

Happy Friday! - The Temp Connection

Hello everyone, and a happy Friday to you!

We’ve nearly reached the weekend! Hope you enjoy today’s home learning.

Remember, Monday is a holiday, so it’ll be Tuesday before your next home learning is available. Also, remember if you complete a task named ‘Assessment’, try to share your completed work with your teacher.

It’s School Uniform Day today, so all across Edinburgh, many pupils are wearing their school uniform to do their home learning. Here’s a picture of our Language Class staff they sent us to share for Uniform Day!

LC Uniform Day picture

We’re hoping lots of you are taking part too, and we’d love to see your photos. You can share any Uniform Day photos with your class teacher through Teams or email, or with Mr Borthwick here

If you want to share a Uniform picture, or a photo of a piece of work by attaching it to an email, Mrs Clark in P1 has created some step by step instructions for how to do this. Her instructions are for an android phone, but hopefully the steps will be similar for other devices too. See the instructions below.

How To Attach a Photo to an Email

Mrs Martin has sent us another fab Art resource, this time with ideas for how you can develop your ‘Design’ skills. Find it below.

Art Ideas- Design

Miss Clark from the Den has another wellbeing resource she’d like to share. If family tensions are running higher than usual, this could be a nice way to refocus on kindness and improve relationships.

Seven Days of Kindness Calendar

Lastly, we have more resources from the RBS Moneysense Team.

You are invited to watch MoneySense Mondays and start the week with a fun and engaging money lesson.

Live lessons are on the Royal Bank of Scotland YouTube channel and Facebook page every Monday from 11.30am–12.30pm.

Next Monday, 18th May will be covering Needs and wants for lower primary in the first 30 minutes and Raising money for charity in the second 30 minutes for upper primary.

They have also created two more Distance Learning bundles to help pupils explore key money topics while learning at home. Follow the link below-

That’s all for today, and this week folks. Enjoy the long weekend, and we look forward to seeing all your uniform pictures from today.

Hello everyone, hope you’re having a happy Thursday!

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to complete some home learning today. Remember, any tasks you complete called ‘Assessment‘ please try to send it back to your teacher once you’ve done it, either through Teams, or via email.

There are a few updates today, starting with another lovely resource from Miss Clark from the Den. Today it’s a booklet children can work through to practise self-care at this difficult time. There’s a link to it below-

Self Care Kit for Pupils

Here is a link to a letter we’re sending out to parents of P7 pupils, explaining what we have been doing so far around transition to high school.

Primary 7 Transition Letter

Don’t forget that tomorrow is ‘School Uniform Day’, where all over the city some pupils are putting on their school uniform to do their home learning. We’ll let you know how you can share any photos with us if you’re taking part, so we can share them here and on Twitter.

Next Monday 18th May is a holiday, so tomorrow will be your last home learning update for a few days! Let’s hope we have some nice weather for the long weekend!

Broughton Staff will be attending the Hub School at Drummond tomorrow, so we’re looking forward to seeing each other, and some children, in the flesh!

Lastly, our Twitter Throwback Quiz is still going! There’s a seemingly endless stream of photos of our staff when they were younger! Will they ever end?

That’s all for today folks, so, as always, stay safe!
