Cross Country Success!

Cross Country Runners

Here is a report from Mrs Ramm about our Cross Country team’s efforts today at the event at Duddingston.

On a fine sunny Spring morning Broughton Primary School’s Cross Country team took part in the EPSSA Cross Country Event at Cavelry Park.
Over 250 children took part in each race. The P6 girls and P6 boys event were first where Holly Bartholomew came 28th and Omar Karaallal 81st.
In the P7 girls event Eilidh and Mhairi Noronha battled it out and in the end it was Eilidh that managed to gain a medal in 10th place with Mhairi just missing out in 11th place. The P7 boys event saw Innes Penman coming in a good 34th place and Nathan Fortune just outside the top 50 in 60th place.
All the children ran well and represented Broughton admirably.

Special congratulations to Eilidh as a medal winner, but a huge well done to all of our fantastic runners! You have done us proud!

Well Done 3

Fun Runs Are Go!

In preparation for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May, Team BPS held their first fun run of 2019 at the weekend, and had a good turnout – despite the weather! Team BPS plan on meeting every Sunday until the race weekend, apart from Easter Sunday, at 10.30am. All are welcome to join in, in preparation for the main event!

At the last count Broughton have 98 children signed up, and we’re hopeful we can make it to over 100!

We also have two ‘Hairy Haggis’ parent relay teams and some 5K and 10K runners too. Mrs Rushforth, Mr Borthwick and Miss Blair are planning on running to represent the school staff team.

Good luck to everyone with their preparations! We’ll be posting further information and updates in the lead up to the event. You can also follow Team BPS on Twitter @bpsrunners

PSA News

psa

Hello everyone,

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Spring Disco, from what I could hear the children (and parents) loved the choices of tunes picked by the DJ as well as the games to break up the dancing.

Events coming up that you need to be aware of:

Powderhall consultation on Thursday 14th March 5-7pm in our gym hall.

This delayed consultation is to focus on the Bowling Greens space.

The demolition of the Powderhall site is ongoing after a minor delay due to asbestos discovery in the refuse building.

The site should be clear by the end of June.

Funds raised at the Health Café will be used to provide activities for our annual Health Week next term.

Friday 22nd March 9am, our next PSA planning meeting, to start focusing on our Health Cafe and our Summer Fair.

The senior leadership team and pupil representatives will be present at this meeting.

To successfully set up and run these events we require a minimum of 6 adult volunteers for the Health Cafe and 30 adult volunteers for the Summer Fair.

I have been asked to remind everyone: if we don’t have enough parental volunteers for the Summer Fair by the end of April then there will be a vote held at the Parent Council meeting on whether the summer fair should go ahead this year.

If you cannot make the planning meeting on the 22nd March but would like to assist with the Summer Fair or Health Cafe please let us know by contacting broughtonparents@gmail.com so that we can put your name on our list of volunteers.

Thanks to our Leith Chooses win we can now get our Growing Community project up and running. First meeting with interested parties from Leith Walk Primary, Saheliya and Drummond High is scheduled for Tuesday 26th March 6.30-8pm, venue to be confirmed,

I’d also like to remind everyone that there is a position available in the PSA for a Chair or co-vice-chair, this role is perfect for anyone who enjoys planning events. This position will be raised in the next Parent Council meeting on Wednesday 24th April.

PSA Spring Disco

Spring-Disco-featured

Our PSA Spring Disco was held recently in our Gym Hall. Looks like everyone who came had a lot of fun, and we’re delighted to say that around £400 was raised for PSA funds to support the school.

Thanks to everyone who helped organise this event, volunteered to help out, or helped with tidying up at the end! Also, thanks to everyone who attended.

Here are some photos and clips we’d like to share!

Pupil Council- Red Nose Day!

Red Nose Day 2019

The Pupil Council met today to judge the entries in the ‘Design a Red Nose’ competition.

There were 3 groups- Nursery-P2, P3-P4 and P5-P7.

The judges had a difficult job, as there were lots of very good entries…

The winning entries are below. Well done to our winners! We hope you enjoy wearing your prize tomorrow!

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition! It was hard for the Pupil Council to judge! We look forward to seeing the school decked out in red tomorrow.

Leith Chooses Success!

Leith Chooses

Last Wednesday we heard from Leith Chooses, that alongside our partners of Saheliya, Leith Walk Primary School PC, and Drummond Community High School PC,  our Parent Council has received funding of £3910 for our project concerning planting, harvesting, cooking and learning about food.

Thanks once again to everyone who voted or helped in the run up to the voting day! A first meeting about this activity is now being organised to help with its planning. We need some more volunteers to help carry out project planning. If you could like to become more involved planning towards this project, please contact ‘Broughton Parents’ at broughtonparents@gmail.com

Well done and huge thanks to everyone involved in this successful project!

Parents Evening Online Booking System

Small-Logo

You are invited to make appointments for the school’s next parents’ evening, online.
Our parents’ evenings are on Wednesday 27th March from 5pm-8pm, and Friday 29th March from 1pm-4pm.

Bookings can be made from 7pm on Tuesday 12th March until 10am on Tuesday 26th March. Appointments requiring an interpreter should be booked by Wednesday 20th March.

This post contains some instructions to help you book online, and an information letter.

Instructions
Navigate to the Parents’ Evening Booking System here.
Use your personal information to log in. You must use the contact information which the school has on file or you will not be able to log in. If you are having problems, please use the contact information on the login page to contact the school.
Log in by selecting which child you want to make bookings for first. If you have more than one child who requires bookings, you can switch between them once you are logged in.
Once logged in, decide whether you need to make bookings individually, or using our Automated Booking Wizard (best if you have a number of bookings and students to make bookings for).
Once you have selected your preferred booking method and once in the correct parents’ evening, follow the relevant instructions from below:
Automated Booking Wizard
Select the teacher you wish to book. You can press ‘Select All’ to select all options
If you have a second child to make bookings for then select their tab and repeat the teacher selecting process
Proceed to the bottom of the page and specify your personal availability, then press Make My Bookings For Me
If the wizard replies that bookings are not feasible, you have not left enough time and need tp reduce the number of teachers or increase the amount of time you’re available.
Now see a list of your booking suggestions. Feel free to add comments to teachers you wish to book, if allowed
Press Confirm to confirm these appointments as your bookings
Press Print or E-Mail to initiate your confirmation.
Individual Bookings: Scroll down until you see the booking table. Above it are the departments and teachers which are available to you.
Select the department, then teacher, and click on an available time to make a booking. When you selected a time, you’re able to add any issues or comments for the teacher to take note of before the appointment.
Repeat this process, making bookings for all of the teachers you need to.
If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, click on the correct department and teacher, then click on the green appointment to change it.
If you need to make bookings for another child, scroll to the top of the page. In the top left corner you should see a ‘Make a Booking for Another Child’ icon. Click this. If there is no icon, the software does not recognise that you have multiple children. This just means that you’ll need to log out and log back in again using the other child’s details.
Once you have made all of your bookings, click on either E-Mail or Print my Appointments. Appointments are saved when they are made, so you don’t have to e-mail or print to ‘save’ them, but doing so will provide a confirmation with further information, possibly including rooms and instructions from the school.

Here is a link to the information letter-  Parent Appointment Online Booking Letter

If you have any problems booking appointments, please contact the school.
