Our last day of term was an eventful and emotional one, especially for our P7 leavers! They visited all the classes for the traditional signing of their P7 jumpers, and we held a special leavers assembly for them.

Our school choir performed, and then all our P7s were presented with a Yearbook, dictionary/thesaurus set, and beautiful, individually inscribed commemorative spoons, made by Mr Clark, Harper in P5’s grandfather. We are so grateful to him for making them!

Mrs O’Rourke thanked our P7s for their hard work over the years, and also for being such a good example to others, and great ambassadors for our school.

Our P7 House Captains performed their last task of the year by announcing the final House Points totals. As follows-

1st     McDonald     11 851 points

2nd     Pilrig     11 551 points

3rd     Trinity     11 468 points

4th     Drummond     10 962 points

P7 sang ‘You Give A Little Love’ from their leavers show, and just before the bell, they were led out of school by Louise, the piper. All the other classes came out to applaud them as they made their way through the school, and they were met by parents and carers in the playground.

We would like to wish our P7 leavers the very best of luck and happiness for the future! We hope we gave you a worthy send off!

We also said farewell to a number of staff: Mrs Clark,Miss McEwan and Mrs Murphy who are moving on to new schools. Also Miss Gilhooly and Mrs Higham, who are leaving Broughton for a while but will be returning.

 

It certainly does!

We held our annual talent show this Wednesday, and what a range of talent was displayed!

We had magic, comedy, singing, dancing , gymnastics and musicians playing instruments!

We also had two musical performances from our Broughton Musical Theatre Group.

Our judges were Mrs Hutchison, Mrs Martin our Art teacher, Katie from After School Club, and Denise from our Broughton Musical Theatre Group.

They had a very hard job deciding on the winners, and gave very positive feedback to all the acts for their great performances.

The winners were as follows-

P1-3- Hendeke Elias from P3a

P4-7 Joint winners- Jess Russell from P4a

and Oliver Rumgay, Eamon Kemble, Ronan Ratcliffe and Daniel Cooper from P7.

This week our Pupil Council manned a stall at our very successful P1 Transition afternoon for new P1 parents/carers.

They were welcoming, polite and confident in talking to the parents, and were able to share some of the work they have done this year, as well as answering any questions the parents had.

Each P4-7 class held an election, with interested candidates presenting to their class why they thought they would be suitable for Pupil Council, and winners being decided by votes.

They have worked so hard this year to make decisions and plan for improvements, all to benefit our school.

• Designed the signing to name our bowling green space ‘Botanical Broughton’

We held a barbecue party for our P7 leavers this Tuesday night!

Thankfully the weather was kind to us and we were able to hold the event over at Botanical Broughton, our bowling green space.

Mrs O’Rourke and Miss Kilpatrick were on form as the chefs for the evening, and we had games, dancing, singing, and of course, plenty delicious treats to eat too!

Everyone had a good time, and we hope P7 weren’t too tired for their transition visits to High School on Wednesday!

We held our last Parent Drop-in session of the year this Friday.

These drop-ins allow our parents and carers the opportunity to visit classes and see examples of classwork, as well as getting involved themselves in some activities!

The school was very busy, and we hope everyone enjoyed the chance to share their learning with each other!

As part of their Enterprise work this term, P4 held Fairtrade sales this week in their classrooms. On Monday, pupils and staff were invited to attend a sale of a wide range of Fairtrade products, including food, jewellery, toys and ornaments. As well as organising the sale, P4 had also prepared very informative leaflets, explaining what Fairtrade meant and how it was important.

P4 held a similar sale for their parents and carers as part of our parent drop-in session this Friday. The sales were well attended, and P4 were kept very busy selling their wares!

This week saw our annual P7 leavers’ show!

The theme was ‘Lip Sync Battle’, and we witnessed 3 hotly contested battles, with songs as diverse as ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Thriller’, ‘Uptown Funk’, ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’, ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘Single Ladies!’

P7 performed to the whole school as a dress rehearsal, then in the evening for parents and carers. The parents loved it, describing the show as ‘amazing!’ and ‘very funny!’

It was a hugely entertaining show, with brilliant costumes, dance routines and, of course, expressive lip syncing!

Huge congratulations to P7 for all your efforts in making this a success. From the performers, to the backstage helpers and technical crew, everyone pulled together to create a very special show!

Many thanks also to the staff who helped organise the show. Mrs Martin, our Art teacher, helped with set design, Mrs Clark from P6 helped with choreography, and the class teachers of the P7 pupils, Miss Kilpatrick and Mr Inglis, who did the lion’s share of organsing music and ideas, and rehearsing!

On Saturday we held our annual PSA Summer Fair in the school playground.

The weather was very kind to us, and there were a number of different stalls, games and activities to keep everyone occupied! Overall we raised the fantastic total of £1876, which will go towards playground improvements!

Our thanks must go to the hard working organisers in our PSA, all the adults, staff and pupils who helped out at a stall or activity, and to everybody who attended and bought something on the day, helping to reach our brilliant total!

Our P6 Football team had their last match of the season last weekend, against Trinity Primary.

We’d like to thank the coaches  Keith and Simon for all their efforts this session. Keith provided us with a report we’d like to share below-

‘We were scheduled to play Trinity Primary on a day when 2 key players could only manage the first half due to the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Earlier in the season Trinity beat us 8-2 therefore I had pre-arranged with Ian, the Trinity coach, that we could get 2 of their best players at half time to help balance things up. Come the day……. we started full of hope as we always do on a bright sunny morning, although our players seemed to have an extra edge of determination on this occasion and before we knew it we were 2 – 0 up!
First goal was an unbelievable free kick by Brandyn from some distance out and the second by Mohammed on a speedy counter attack. It didn’t quite seem real to us or to Trinity who were quite shocked by how much we had improved. Inevitably, despite the steely efforts of Rania and Hyat in defence and Douglas in goal, Trinity came back and equalised at 2 – 2 when we thought..oh dear here we go again.. then digging deep once again Eugen scored for us just before half time.
The second half went in a blur of goals with Trinity scoring 4 more and our team scoring 2 to finish at 6 – 5 to Trinity, our last in the dying minutes coming from a powerful solo run and shot by Hyat which tipified the energy, determination and great skill shown by the whole team during the game.
It was a brilliant performance by everyone in the team; no one could have given more on the day. We finished with our 3 girls on the park, Rania, Alisha and Ruth who hardly missed a tackle all game and certainly gave the Trinity forwards a run for their money, Rania especially, acting as a rock in the centre of defence to the extent she was our player of the match.
As coaches and parents we should all be hugely proud of our team who have never complained even when up against excellent opponents who scored numerous goals against us. The players learned how to play for each other, supporting each other and motivating each other. The result on Saturday was not a win but it was a massive step forward in team performance and an absolutely brilliant and exciting spectacle. Simon and I as coaches and parents are so proud and happy for every one of them!’

Well done to our team and coaches! We look forward to next season!
