Euro Quiz

Euro Quiz 2018 – Broughton Primary

This week saw Broughton participate in the annual Euro Quiz event. This event is for pupils in P6, and schools across Edinburgh participate in the Edinburgh heat, for a place in the national final later in the year. We would normally attend the quiz at the City Chambers, but this year the event was held on-line.

Our P6 team were Georgiy, Erica, Orla and Mariyah, and they worked very hard to prepare for the quiz. They undertook extra homework tasks, spent time in school doing practice quizzes, and did a lot of personal research, so have learned lots about European history, geography and culture in the process.

They represented the school very ably, and we are very proud of them! We will find out how we placed soon, but we reckon the team are all stars! Well done!

F@B Books and Story Tree Activities

PSA

Our lovely parent group, Friends at Broughton (F@B) recently organised a fund raising activity in school.

Last Friday 30th April, our children were encouraged to come to school wearing a hat, or a headpiece with decoration based on a favourite book or character. There were some lovely creations on show!

Also, the children were invited to create and design their own hand made books and bookmarks. The books were judged and prizes were awarded to our finalists and overall winner. The bookmarks made will be used by our P1 pupils in their classrooms!

Here are the finalists in our handmade book competition! These entries all earned a book as a prize!

Here is our overall winner, who received a £10 book voucher! Amelie from P4b, who made this lovely story and activity book! Well done Amelie!

Here are some of our fantastic bookmark designs!

Well done to everyone who made the effort to design one of these lovely creations! Everyone who did has earned house points, but special congratulations go to our prize winners!

Another activity as part of this event is the Story Tree. F@B and Parent Council members set up a Story Tree in St Marks Park on Friday 30 April.  Pink blossom was added by some of the younger children and wild flowers by some of the parents.  At around 2 pm, 2 groups of around 23 children from Broughton After School Club had fun pointing out the features of the Story Tree.  It was enjoyed by others over the weekend. Here are some pictures!

Thanks to our F@B group for organising this lovely event. So far it’s raised £93, so well done everyone. Thanks to everyone who took part, we hope you enjoyed flexing your creative muscles!
