PSA Summer Fair Information

Please see the following information below from our Parent Council-

Dear Parents and Carers,

We attach three posters – the first one is about the Summer Fair, which happens on Saturday 18 June 2022, 11.30 am to 2.30 pm.

The second one is about a bake off, which is taking place as part of the Summer Fair.

The third one is about a smaller event happening this Saturday  – a Tidy up Day for the Parent Council cupboard (and also a chance to begin to receive donations of items towards the Summer Fair).  This Tidy Up Day is also fun and happens this Saturday 11 June 2022, 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm.  The posters tell you about how to come along for these events; about how to bring a cake for the bake off; and about how to help with their organisation and running.  We look forward to seeing you on both / either occasions.

Many thanks

Sports Day 2022

Yesterday was our first proper Sports Day since 2019! It was lovely to be able to hold the event without restriction and allow parents and carers to come and watch once again.

We held our event at the Craigroyston Football Pitch area of St.Mark’s Park, and were lucky enough to be able to have most of the P4-P7 events in the morning before the heavens opened! Our P1-P3 classes weren’t so lucky with the weather in the afternoon for their event, but they got to attempt some of the events.

Thanks to Mrs Bertram for all her organisation of this event. The events all ran smoothly and it was a very enjoyable occasion! In the lead up to the day, Mrs Bertram ran some flat race heats to select the top 4 fastest runners from each P4-P7 class to run in a stage final, one for boys and one for girls. Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2022

Well done to everyone on Saturday at the EMF Junior Races!  From our 58+ BPS runners in the EMF Junior Races; to Naomi Sandilands and Shona Campbell, who provided a great set of 11 training practices in Pilrig Park and who staffed the BPS Meeting Place for the day itself, giving structure to the activities.  Thanks to Ivon Bartholomew for all the photos.  As the poster said – it’s about taking part and making memories as much as race times!  BPS runners ran in the kids kilometre, the 1.5 km, the 2 km and the Junior 5km.  What an amazing team!

There were also 7 former BPS runners, who are now at Drummond Community High School running in the Junior 5km. Shout out to Mrs Gowans, and team BPS EMF champion, Sandra Bagnall, who both ran the Adult 5km. Sandra is a former Broughton parent who used to organise team BPS and the Pilrig Park training practices, alongside Catriona Scott from 2017 to 2021.

Some comments from parents of our most recent runners:

“It was our first year and it was brilliant! The Pilrig Park runs were brilliant in the run up!”

“Our son really enjoyed the training sessions and taking part in the run today!”

“My kids ran for the first time and they had really good fun. They felt so happy as they got medals.”

Here are some of Ivon’s lovely photos.

Well done everyone! Go Team Broughton!

P1 and P2 Gardeners!

Some children from P1 and P2 planted lots of new herb plants into the top playground on Friday.  We bought them with a grant for sustainable food growing from Edinburgh City Council.  The children are looking forward to using the plants in their play and for cooking after the summer holidays!

Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2022

In total, Broughton Primary School has at least 58 pupils running this Saturday in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival Junior Races. The 11th BPS Pilrig Park weekly training practice went well – FINAL ONE FOR SPRING 2022!  Thanks to everyone who came along to our weekly training practices. Thanks to Naomi Sandilands and Shona Campbell for leading the sessions and thanks to Ivon Bartholomew, for taking the photographs.

After 11 fun runs at Pilrig Park, our runners are now ready to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival Junior Races.  We are looking forward to seeing all our runners in their white Broughton Primary School t-shirts!  If your child is not running, then you are still very welcome to come along and cheer on Team BPS!  A poster is attached below with some final information about the race day.

For those of you who wish to mark the effort involved in this activity, by and for our Broughton runners, by donating or by getting your runs sponsored, then we have included details on the poster about how to make a payment via ParentPay.  In ParentPay this payment item called is ‘EMF Race Day Fundraiser 2022’.  This payment will contribute towards Parent Council funds, which are used throughout the year to fund class outings and to enhance the school experience.

Good luck everyone!
