2019-20 Youth Music Initiative Provision

This year, the Arts and Creative Learning Team, funded by the Youth Music Initiative (YMI,) is delighted to offer opt-in group music tuition for P5-7. These lessons are called Sounds Like Friday (SLF) and Sounds Like Saturday (SLS) which parents and carers can sign up to on behalf of their children.

Sounds like Friday/Saturday, are opt-in group music lessons are held at venues across Edinburgh on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

As another session draws to a close, for our final post of the year we’d like to focus on transition, and those pupils and staff who are moving on from the Broughton Primary community.

P7 Leavers

Yesterday was the last day of primary school for our P7 pupils! An emotional day began with P7 visiting the other classes in school for the traditional signing of their P7 jumpers and shirts.

After break we held our P7 Leavers Assembly in our Gym Hall. Each of the P7s were presented with a gift from school and their P7 Yearbook they created together with their class teachers, Miss Stewart and Ms Ziemons. They also reprised a song from their P7 Show for everyone and house captains helped to announce the final House Points totals of the year.

House Points

Our P7 House Captains carried out their final duty in announcing the final totals for our House Points. Here are the totals-

1st   Pilrig  18 769 points

2nd   McDonald  17 702 points

3rd   Drummond  17 045 points

4th   Trinity   16 966 points

Well done to everyone for earning so many house points over the year, and special congratulations to Pilrig, who win the House Shield for the first time! They were the only House yet to win, so it’s nice to see them finally see their name on the shield!

After Assembly, P7 were dismissed in style, as they were piped out of the school by Louise! All the other classes lined the stairs and corridor to clap and cheer as P7 left!

From everyone at Broughton, we’d like to wish our P7s the very best of luck for starting S1 after the holidays. Thank you for being such fantastic ambassadors for our school, and such a good example to others! We’ll miss you so much, but we know you’ll keep reaching for the stars!

We’d also like to extend our best wishes to any other children in school who are moving to new schools after the summer! Good luck to all!

As well as our P7 leavers, we also said farewell to some of our lovely staff members too.

Moving on to new adventures from our support staff team are Miss Rodriguez, Miss Korecka, Miss Hunter and Miss McCleary. From our teaching staff we say goodbye to Miss McIntosh, Ms Ziemons and Miss Duck, with a special adieu to Mrs Tweedie, who is retiring after 18 years at Broughton! We’d like to wish them all good luck and happiness in the next stages of their lives, and thank them all for their dedication, hard work and commitment to making a difference to the lives of the members of our Broughton community!

Finally, we’d like to wish everyone a happy, sunny, healthy summer holiday! Let’s all enjoy a well deserved break! We look forward to seeing everyone when school reopens for the pupils on Wednesday 14th August.

Last week we held our transition event for parents and carers of children starting P1 in August. We had a market place of different stalls, with school uniform, English as an additional language service, our school PSA, school nurse, after school clubs and our own Pupil Council represented. Parents had a chance to browse the market place before a presentation from Mrs Rushforth, introducing them to the school.

Finally, here are some photos of the transition event. We look forward to welcoming our new P1 pupils after the summer!

Yesterday we had a group photo shoot, taken by our local photographer and parent Ivon Bartholomew.

All the children who took part in this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival were included. The photo shoot also gave us the opportunity to thank Catriona Scott for all her dedication and effort in co-ordinating our school’s involvement in the EMF over the last few years.

Spearheading broughtonrunners, Catriona and Sandra Bagnall have worked so hard to encourage and increase our participation in the EMF, and have been so successful we’ve won the participation award for the past 3 years running! Catriona and Sandra won a Scottish Parent award for their efforts earlier this year, and just last weekend won another Local Hero award for Health, again for their EMF work. Well deserved!

Catriona’s children are moving to S1 after summer, so Catriona is moving on too! We just wanted to say a huge thank you to Catriona (and Sandra too) for all the enthusiasm and excitement they have generated in the Broughton Primary community for the EMF. Catriona has promised she’ll still cheer Broughton on at next year’s event! We send Catriona our best wishes for the future, and good luck to Sandra, who has a couple of years left as a Broughton parent, so isn’t going anywhere! (We hope!)

It certainly does! This afternoon we were treated to an array of talented youngsters in our annual Broughton’s Got Talent event.

Our 3 capable judges were Katie from our After School Club, Catriona from bpsrunners, and Mrs Ramm, our PE teacher.

We saw a wide range of talents. Singing, dancing and gymnastics were on show, as well as ukulele, recorder and piano playing!

We also had 2 fantastic performances from our Glee Club, while the judges were doing the tough job of deciding the winners.

Everyone was extremely brave to get up and perform in front of the entire school!

As always there can only be one winner-

P1-3 was won by Adam for his fantastic gymnastics display!

P4-7 was won by Elisha for her amazing singing!

Thanks must go to our 3 judges, as they had a really difficult job to do!

Also. well done to everyone who took part in class auditions, or made it to the final- you’re all very brave!

Lastly, huge thanks and congratulations to Mrs McIntyre, who organised the event!
