Hopefully you’ve had a chance to complete some home learning today. Remember, any tasks you complete called ‘Assessment‘ please try to send it back to your teacher once you’ve done it, either through Teams, or via email.

There are a few updates today, starting with another lovely resource from Miss Clark from the Den. Today it’s a booklet children can work through to practise self-care at this difficult time. There’s a link to it below-

Don’t forget that tomorrow is ‘School Uniform Day’, where all over the city some pupils are putting on their school uniform to do their home learning. We’ll let you know how you can share any photos with us if you’re taking part, so we can share them here and on Twitter.

Next Monday 18th May is a holiday, so tomorrow will be your last home learning update for a few days! Let’s hope we have some nice weather for the long weekend!

Broughton Staff will be attending the Hub School at Drummond tomorrow, so we’re looking forward to seeing each other, and some children, in the flesh!

Lastly, our Twitter Throwback Quiz is still going! There’s a seemingly endless stream of photos of our staff when they were younger! Will they ever end?

Hello everyone, we hope you’re having a happy Wednesday!

Hope you’ve managed to do some home learning today. Just a short post today, with a couple of updates.

Firstly, our P7 parents have been sent information from the Edinburgh Evening News about the changes they have planned for their P7 photos they usually take, so that there can still be a  P7 Leavers Souvenir Edition of the newspaper, of sorts, this year. The letter is attached below for those who may not have picked it up yet.

Hello everyone, and a happy Monday to you all! We hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend.

Firstly, apologies if you had to wait a bit longer than usual for your home learning to appear on your class web page today. Now that we’ve moved forward with more video and audio tutorials, these files are much larger in size than other Word or PDF documents, so they take a lot longer to upload. Please bear with us on the first couple of days of each week, when we’re more likely to be posting these types of clips. We’ve also had some feedback that when some of you are trying to view PowerPoint presentations that contain video, on a tablet, the videos won’t play. With that in mind, we’ll try to make sure we post the videos separately on the class page so you can hopefully view them successfully.

Thanks so much to all of you who managed to share last week’s home learning ‘Assessment‘ task with your class teacher. It’s been lovely to see examples of this work. Please remember to try and share this task each week, either through Teams or by emailing the class teacher a photo of your child’s work. If you would like some advice on emailing photos of work to the class teacher, please contact Mr Borthwick here for some help.

Miss Bradley would like to share the following. Nursery Parents who have children going into Primary 1 this August will be emailed some information today about the Council’s transition programme into P1. Here is an update from LivingStreets.org about walking and staying active during lockdown.

This week’s activity on our updated families activity hub is ‘Imagine’. Nothing sparks imagination quite like a good walk! This week’s activities are designed to inspire fantasy, encouraging children to re-write the world around them.

This month for National Walking Month, encourage your children to walk for 20 minutes every day as part of their daily exercise and see what benefits they experience. Our #walkingfromhome #Try20 tips and resources can help your school children, whether they’re walking as a family, trying to fit in some exercise whilst their parents are working from home, or if they’re restricted to indoor exercise.

It’s our last daily post of this week, as tomorrow is a holiday remember!

We hope you are accessing your home learning ok, and remembering to try and send any activities marked ‘Assessment’ in to your teachers, so they can see how you got on with it. Our survey to find out how you are getting on with home learning will close on Monday, so if you’ve not had your say yet, make sure you complete it by clicking here before Monday!

Some of you may be using BBC Bitesize Daily resources at home. There’s lots of new content being added every day as additional resources to our home learning.

To help you plan ahead, here are the schedules for their next two weeks of online lessons.

Miss Clark has said she is missing her chats with our pupils in the Den. She has some lovely resources she’d like to share with everyone. Firstly, here is a link to some regulation strategies for children to try at home to feel calm. The staff at Emotion Works prepared it especially for use during lockdown.

A number of Edinburgh schools have been sharing that some of their pupils wear their school uniform to complete their home learning! This lead to us thinking of how a uniform can connect children to their school family and community. Across the city a number of schools have decided to organise a fun ‘School Uniform Day‘ next Friday 15th May (a play on a ‘non-school uniform day’) when children can put their school uniform on to do their home learning for that day. Broughton is going to join in too, so if you want to take part, find your school uniform and wear it with pride next Friday! Please send us some photos so we can share them on here, and we’ll be joining in on Twitter #SchoolUniformDay too! Please don’t feel you must join in, it’s just a bit of fun!

Speaking of Twitter, some of our Throwback Quiz pictures are easier than others to figure out, but that’s the nature of a quiz! We hope you’re liking this additional daily challenge!

Hello everyone, happy Tuesday to you all!

We hope you are all keeping well after the long weekend. Did you manage to enjoy the sunshine, and avoid the rain?

This week’s home learning is available for you all. As we mentioned last week, we are trying to develop how we deliver our home learning tasks, and you will notice that our brilliant teachers have been working hard on this. You will notice that there are more audio and visual  instructions in the powerpoints and videos being posted. We hope you enjoy hearing their voices again!

This week our teachers will also be posting specific Assessment tasks as part of their home learning. They will be clearly named ‘Assessment’ and will be at different levels to suit our different learners, so make sure you pick which one you attempt carefully. We’d be grateful if as many of you could send that task back to the class teacher. You can send a photograph of the work in an email, or use Teams, either is fine. Sending it back will help the teachers to see how the children managed the task, and help us with our future home learning and assessment recording.

We also welcome P4 to Teams today! We hope you can access your learning ok, and can complete as many of your tasks as possible. Don’t worry if it’s fiddly to begin with, it gets easier to use the more you use it. We posted instructions and videos on April 21st, so look back for them if you need some help, or contact us. In addition to those clips here is a further video Miss Stewart made for P6, that you may find useful for accessing Teams with a laptop.

 

We have been unable to use Teams for P1-3 so far, as we were unable to create accounts for them. However, we now have the opportunity to do this. Once we are able to access a school building, we can set up accounts and passwords for P1-P3, so we’ll let you know these as soon as we have them.

Rachel Blythe is one of our parents, and the Vice-Chair of our PSA. Here is some information she would like to share with you all.

I’ve been developing a document for the Growing and Cooking project encouraging families to plant at home in May 2020, if they are able to do so. This is a small bit of a replacement for the planting day, which we had planned for Friday 15 May. The document below has information on this, describes how to make flower pots and seed pots from recycled materials and how to use the Seek app, to identify plants and animals. We’d love to see some photos of the plants as they grow, so send us pictures so we can share them here!

It’s Friday! Well done on making it to the end of another week in lockdown. We hope you are still managing to complete as much of your Home Learning as you can.

Hello everyone!

We hope you are having a nice Thursday, and have managed some of your home learning tasks.

Here is an exciting link about some new resources from CGI- STEM based activity packs that you can do at home with your children. The activities are aimed at students aged 6-14, but everyone can get involved!
Activities will encompass all aspects of STEM, including coding, environmental sustainability and robotics. There will be a range of activities each week, involving activities with technical, practical and physical elements.
