Wednesday 24th June

Happy Wednesday! – The New Forest Inn

Hello everyone, and a happy Wednesday to you all!

We’re half way through the week, so we hope you’re all still enjoying your home learning tasks!

Our first post today is a letter from the City of Edinburgh Council for parents and carers around the reopening of schools in August. You can read it below.

CEC Statement on Reopening of Schools 24th June 2020

Yesterday’s virtual Edinburgh Zoo trip was such a big success! We’ve been delighted to see all the lovely feedback on Teams. It would seem that everyone had a great time, and really enjoyed seeing all the different animals! Here are some of the photos and lovely work from the Zoo trip that was shared on Teams yesterday. Huge thanks again to Miss Wilson and Mrs Clark for organising the trip!

Don’t forget that audition videos for our virtual Broughton’s Got Talent are on each stage Team page, and there should be a poll on the page so you can vote for your favourite. Today is your last chance to vote! Winners will go through to finals, where Mrs Gowans will decide on winners!

Our P7 pupils had a virtual picnic with their teachers today, where they met up on Teams, half a class at a time, to chat and snack together! This was instead of their usual leavers BBQ, which would have been tonight. Not the same we know, but we hope you enjoyed the chance to get together virtually! Tomorrow our P7s have been invited into our school playground in staggered, small, socially distanced groups, so they can say goodbye to their teachers and collect a P7 Yearbook and some leaving gifts from the school. We can’t wait to see them!

That’s all for today folks! As always, stay safe! 2 sleeps to go!

Virtual Trip to Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo - Wikipedia

Good morning everyone!

Is everybody here? Have you got your jacket? Packed lunch? Have we got our First Aid kit and all our forms? Are the parent helpers here? Then we’re ready. Let’s go!

(Actually, we don’t need any of those things for our virtual trip today, but it’s nice to pretend we are all together today!)

There were a couple of pre-visit activities, which will still be on class pages if you didn’t get a chance to do them. It’s not too late, you can just ‘visit’ the zoo a bit later.

Some classes have posted the information for today’s trip on their class pages, or on Teams, but it’s just below if you need it.

Last week we shared with you the teachers who will be taking each class next year.

Here you can find a welcome video from your class teacher, introducing themselves. Some have also been able to share some photos of the learning space, as it looks just now.  P1 teacher videos will be available later in the week.

Enjoy, and remember, you are looking for your class for next year, so, for example, this year’s P1a will be looking for the P2a video- that’s where we start-

HAPPY MONDAY® - Designers d'Espaces de Travail | LinkedIn

Hello everyone, and a happy Monday to you all!

It’s the last week of term before we break up for summer, but there’s still time for lots of fun and learning to happen!

Today Mrs Gowans has sent out a letter with information about staffing at Broughton for next year. Here it is in case you missed it-

Broughton Staffing Update- Mon 22nd June

As Mrs Gowans mentioned in her letter, we have a number of new staff next session. Because it’s been so long since we were all together in school, some teachers have made a ‘Welcome’ video for their classes to introduce themselves, and some have photos to share of their learning space too. They’ll be posted on the website later today, so look out for them!

We were sad to read of the official cancellation of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival at the weekend. It had been rescheduled for early September from May, but that time has also, understandably, been considered  unsafe for such a big event to go ahead. If you had registered for the EMF, make sure you log in to your account, as there are a number of options available for you , including transferring your registration to next year. You have until 31st December 2020 to make your decision!

This week we have our exciting virtual trip to Edinburgh Zoo tomorrow, so hopefully you have been able to do the prep tasks. They’re not essential to you taking part in the trip though, so look out for a guide to the trip in tomorrow’s home learning. There also won’t be any other home learning tomorrow because of our trip!

Auditions are also ongoing for a virtual Broughton’s Got Talent! Simply post your video on Teams and then a poll will be held to choose finalists- Mrs Gowans will be the judge!

It’s our P7 pupils’ last week of primary school! We have made some plans to give them a couple of special virtual and socially distanced events to wish them well for high school. Timeslots and information has been sent out for these- we look forward to them!

Mrs Venn has found a lovely resource to share. It’s a Building Resilience alphabet- you can find it by clicking the link below-

Finally, here are some home learning resources from the British Council, introducing learners to some important global issues and goals for sustainability.

That’s all for today folks! As always, stay safe!

Friday 19th June

Happy Friday designs, themes, templates and downloadable graphic ...

Hello everyone, and a happy Friday to you all!

Well done to you all for making it through another week of home learning! This time next week, we’ll be on summer holidays!

Next week we have our Virtual Broughton’s Got Talent and our Virtual Trip to Edinburgh Zoo to look forward to. Keep going everyone, we’re nearly there!

Last night it was lovely to see some of our parents at our Virtual Parent Council and PSA meeting on Teams. There was lots to talk about, and it was nice to see some familiar faces again!

We shared information about class teachers for next session today! Look out for some videos and photos next week on the website, where your teacher will introduce themselves to you, and show you your new classroom space.

We have more resources to share with you. Miss Clark has a list of ideas for summer holiday activities that are either very cheap, or cost nothing! See below-

Cheap/Free Summer Holiday Ideas

See below how you can support your child to gain a qualification at home!

Youth Scotland have made 1000 free resources available to parents and carers to help them to support their child to gain a qualification at home. The Hi5 and Dynamic Youth Awards (DYA) are wider achievement awards that follow an engaging and fun plan-do-review format. Hi5 Awards are aimed at children aged 5+ and DYA at age 10+.

All completed awards receive a certificate. Both awards are nationally recognised and are credit rated and levelled by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

The resources will be made available to the first 1000 applicants on a first come first served basis. Click here for further information and to access this free resource.

That’s all for today, and for another week folks!

We wish you all a very happy and safe weekend. One more week to go….

Thursday 18th June

Happy Thursday Stock Illustrations – 1,314 Happy Thursday Stock ...

Hello everyone, and a happy Thursday to you all!

It’s another short update today. We hope you are still keeping going with your home learning tasks- it’s not long until the summer holidays begin, but we’ll still be posting new tasks for you every day until then.

Firstly, a reminder that we will be sharing who’ll be teaching each class next year with you tomorrow. I’m sure you can’t wait to find out who your teacher will be!

As next week is the last week of term, you might find your daily tasks are a bit different to your usual daily literacy and maths tasks. There might be more puzzles, games, or end of term type activities available for you- so you can look forward to that!

Next week we have our virtual trip to the Zoo on Tuesday, and our virtual Broughton’s Got Talent event. P7 also have a couple of virtual or socially distant events next week too, to help us wish them well as they move on to High School.

Talking of P7, we have some lovely photos to share. Today is the last day of the P7 virtual 3-day visits to their high schools. One of their suggested transition tasks has been to create a goodbye message for the school, and attach it to the school gates. Well, we have some lovely messages already attached to our gates from our P7s, and there’s even a special board if any children from other classes want to write a special good luck message to our leaving P7s. This is a lovely way for P7s to communicate with each other, and the school, in these socially distant times! Have a look here-

If you’re passing by, stop and have a read. Better still, leave P7 a nice good luck message!

That’s all for today folks. Don’t forget ‘Drop everything and read’ time at 2.30pm! What are you going to read today?

As always, stay safe!

Happy Wednesday | Free Vectors, Stock Photos & PSD

Hello everyone, and a happy Wednesday to you all!

We’re at the Hub school today, and having a lovely day with our key worker children! Just a short update today.

We are very busy making all sorts of plans for next session. As you can imagine, there’s lots to think about.

We hope to be able to share information on who will be taking each class next year by the end of this week.

Early next week, we also hope to be able to share information around some arrangements for next year- e.g. class groupings, days of attendance, start and finish times, etc.

Miss Bradley has created a P1 Transition Sway presentation for our new P1 starters in August. If you want to view it, you can find it on the ‘Transition’ page of our website!

That’s all for today folks, enjoy the rest of your day.

As always, stay safe!

HAPPY TUESDAY! Free Funny Greetings Cards - Flash Animation - YouTube

Hello everyone, and a happy Tuesday to you all!

We hope you are having a good day, and a special thought for our P7s, who we hope are enjoying your virtual 3-day visits!

Just a short update today, so let’s go.

First, we’re delighted to announce that Mrs Clark from P1, and Mr Rogerson from P4 have planned a Virtual ‘Broughton’s Got Talent’ event for next week. Please see the letter below for information about this exciting event!

Virtual Broughton’s Got Talent

We also want to take some time to mention our planned visit to Lagganlia, which we have sadly had to cancel. We realise that this has been upsetting for our P6 children who were so looking forward to it! We are upset too, so we want to make it clear that this decision has been made by the City of Edinburgh Council, and while we are sad about it, we understand why it can’t go ahead. While we will have social distancing in place, and pupils attending school in small groups, we can’t take around 50 pupils in a coach to a residential trip where they would need to share dorms and bathroom space in close contact with each other. We will keep parents up to date with information on refunds, and any plans to offer a different kind of outdoor experience next session when we have them.

Finally, Broughton Primary staff will be attending the Hub school at Drummond tomorrow. It’s our last time at the Hub before the summer break, so it’ll be lovely to catch up with our Broughton pupils and all the other key worker children we’ve got to know a little bit from other schools.

That’s all for today’s brief update folks! Enjoy the rest of your day, and as always, stay safe!
