Nursery Newsletter- April 2021

For the week beginning 3rd of May, the Nursery will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. This is for the bank holiday, in service day and the elections.
Thank you.

We have been discussing the understanding of Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) which uses eight indicators for wellbeing; safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included (SHANARRI).

We hope to build on this concept with the children by using this language in our everyday conversations with them and by giving them certificates when they have shown positive interactions.

This will support children to become more familiar with these concepts, and to develop their understanding of the many ways we can promote wellbeing that allows us to flourish and gain confidence.

Happy New Year to all our Broughton families. Although we will not be returning to nursery next week we will be moving to online learning from Monday.

You will be able to access a weekly home learning grid on your child’s learning journal and we will also post it on the school website from 9.30ish. This will be suggestions of things you can do with your child. Please don’t force them to do something they don’t want to do. If they do enjoy an activity and want to do it most of the day that is fine too!

Mrs Martin came to do some autumn art work with us. We worked together to paint the background using autumnal colours. Then we used paper, paints and crayons to create a tree and leaves, We painted some hedgehogs and squirrels to live in our Autumn picture.

The Nursery have been exploring different Fairytales and traditional stories. We turned our pod into the house from Hansel and Gretel, used different materials to build a new house for the Three Little Pigs and used puppets and character mats to retell different stories.

Some of the children in the nursery wanted to know what would happen when you mix different colours together. We tested mixing each colour and decided to record the results on a chart. We decided making brown was the hardest!

We have been discussing our nursery charter. As a group we decided what our responsibilities should be and made a hand print to decorate each flower.

This week we held our Nursery Transition assembly. P1 and P2 came along to wish all our Nursery leavers good luck when they start P1 after the holidays. Some parents were in the audience too! We enjoyed some singing, and taking part with all the actions for he songs. Our Nursery leavers were also presented with a special certificate! Good luck for P1 everyone! We hope you have lots of fun!

The Nursery have been growing daffodils with Mrs Howarth to enter into this years RCHS Bulb Show. The show took place this weekend at the Botanic Gardens where many Edinburgh schools and Nurseries entered various flowers and art work. Broughton Nursery won Silver for our daffodil bulbs and Gold for our spring art work!

The afternoon nursery children decided to make some banana bread for snack. They had to use their number knowledge to weigh out all of the ingredients. It was delicious!
