Monday 11th May

Happy Monday Sticker by Poppy Deyes for iOS & Android | GIPHY

Hello everyone, and a happy Monday to you all! We hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend.

Firstly, apologies if you had to wait a bit longer than usual for your home learning to appear on your class web page today. Now that we’ve moved forward with more video and audio tutorials, these files are much larger in size than other Word or PDF documents, so they take a lot longer to upload. Please bear with us on the first couple of days of each week, when we’re more likely to be posting these types of clips. We’ve also had some feedback that when some of you are trying to view PowerPoint presentations that contain video, on a tablet, the videos won’t play. With that in mind, we’ll try to make sure we post the videos separately on the class page so you can hopefully view them successfully.

Thanks so much to all of you who managed to share last week’s home learning ‘Assessment‘ task with your class teacher. It’s been lovely to see examples of this work. Please remember to try and share this task each week, either through Teams or by emailing the class teacher a photo of your child’s work. If you would like some advice on emailing photos of work to the class teacher, please contact Mr Borthwick here for some help.

Miss Bradley would like to share the following. Nursery Parents who have children going into Primary 1 this August will be emailed some information today about the Council’s transition programme into P1. More information can also be found on your child’s Learning Journal. Copies of latest information for Nursery parents can be found below-

Here is the latest update from the WWF-

Starting Monday 11th May, we’ve provided fun daily activities to help connect with nature and learn more about our planet’s frozen world.
Our upcoming themed week will include live learning events via our new dedicated Facebook group (with recordings available on YouTube), links to our popular educational materials, and an opportunity to participate in a fun and insightful webinar with a WWF expert. Follow the link below for more-

Mrs Martin has sent us some more fab ideas for Art activities you can try at home. The theme for this week is Drawing activities. Find them below.

Here is an update from LivingStreets.org about walking and staying active during lockdown.

This week’s activity on our updated families activity hub is ‘Imagine’. Nothing sparks imagination quite like a good walk! This week’s activities are designed to inspire fantasy, encouraging children to re-write the world around them.

This month for National Walking Month, encourage your children to walk for 20 minutes every day as part of their daily exercise and see what benefits they experience. Our #walkingfromhome #Try20 tips and resources can help your school children, whether they’re walking as a family, trying to fit in some exercise whilst their parents are working from home, or if they’re restricted to indoor exercise.

Please contact us at scotschools@livingstreets.org.uk if you have any questions.

Finally, our Twitter Throwback Quiz is continuing on our Twitter feed this week, so we hope you enjoy our own version of ‘Guess Who?’

Cute Happy Thursday Week Greeting Text Expression Gifts & Gift ...

Hello everyone, and a happy Thursday to you all!

It’s our last daily post of this week, as tomorrow is a holiday remember!

We hope you are accessing your home learning ok, and remembering to try and send any activities marked ‘Assessment’ in to your teachers, so they can see how you got on with it. Our survey to find out how you are getting on with home learning will close on Monday, so if you’ve not had your say yet, make sure you complete it by clicking here before Monday!

Some of you may be using BBC Bitesize Daily resources at home. There’s lots of new content being added every day as additional resources to our home learning.

To help you plan ahead, here are the schedules for their next two weeks of online lessons.

Miss Clark has said she is missing her chats with our pupils in the Den. She has some lovely resources she’d like to share with everyone. Firstly, here is a link to some regulation strategies for children to try at home to feel calm. The staff at Emotion Works prepared it especially for use during lockdown.

Also, here is a link to some lovely relaxation exercises Miss Clark recommends. We hope you find these useful!

A number of Edinburgh schools have been sharing that some of their pupils wear their school uniform to complete their home learning! This lead to us thinking of how a uniform can connect children to their school family and community. Across the city a number of schools have decided to organise a fun ‘School Uniform Day‘ next Friday 15th May (a play on a ‘non-school uniform day’) when children can put their school uniform on to do their home learning for that day. Broughton is going to join in too, so if you want to take part, find your school uniform and wear it with pride next Friday! Please send us some photos so we can share them on here, and we’ll be joining in on Twitter #SchoolUniformDay too! Please don’t feel you must join in, it’s just a bit of fun!

Speaking of Twitter, some of our Throwback Quiz pictures are easier than others to figure out, but that’s the nature of a quiz! We hope you’re liking this additional daily challenge!

That’s all for today, and for this week folks! You’re all doing so well, let’s keep going together!

We hope you all have a lovely long weekend, and get to enjoy some relaxing, maybe sunny times with your family. See you all next Monday for a new week!

As always, stay safe!

Happy Wednesday (SVG Cut file) by Creative Fabrica Crafts ...

Hello everyone, and happy Wednesday to you all!

We hope you are all well, and are enjoying a beautiful sunny day!

We hope you also find time to do some of your home learning tasks, which are available for you all. We hope you are enjoying seeing and hearing your teachers again through their PowerPoints and videos! Don’t forget that if you see a task in your home learning called ‘Assessment‘ we’d like you to try and send it back to your teacher, either through Teams or by sending an email with a photo, or the work attached. Also, don’t forget that tomorrow is your last day of home learning for this week, due to Friday’s holiday!

Remember we have a survey open at the moment to let us know how you’re getting on with your home learning. Find it here, it will only take a minute to complete.

Mr Young has some information he’d like to share with those of you who attend Boost lessons with him. See below!

Tuesday 5th May

Tuesday kidz Archives — JEM Swim School

Hello everyone, happy Tuesday to you all!

We hope you are all keeping well after the long weekend. Did you manage to enjoy the sunshine, and avoid the rain?

This week’s home learning is available for you all. As we mentioned last week, we are trying to develop how we deliver our home learning tasks, and you will notice that our brilliant teachers have been working hard on this. You will notice that there are more audio and visual  instructions in the powerpoints and videos being posted. We hope you enjoy hearing their voices again!

This week our teachers will also be posting specific Assessment tasks as part of their home learning. They will be clearly named ‘Assessment’ and will be at different levels to suit our different learners, so make sure you pick which one you attempt carefully. We’d be grateful if as many of you could send that task back to the class teacher. You can send a photograph of the work in an email, or use Teams, either is fine. Sending it back will help the teachers to see how the children managed the task, and help us with our future home learning and assessment recording.

We also welcome P4 to Teams today! We hope you can access your learning ok, and can complete as many of your tasks as possible. Don’t worry if it’s fiddly to begin with, it gets easier to use the more you use it. We posted instructions and videos on April 21st, so look back for them if you need some help, or contact us. In addition to those clips here is a further video Miss Stewart made for P6, that you may find useful for accessing Teams with a laptop.

We have been unable to use Teams for P1-3 so far, as we were unable to create accounts for them. However, we now have the opportunity to do this. Once we are able to access a school building, we can set up accounts and passwords for P1-P3, so we’ll let you know these as soon as we have them.

Rachel Blythe is one of our parents, and the Vice-Chair of our PSA. Here is some information she would like to share with you all.

I’ve been developing a document for the Growing and Cooking project encouraging families to plant at home in May 2020, if they are able to do so. This is a small bit of a replacement for the planting day, which we had planned for Friday 15 May. The document below has information on this, describes how to make flower pots and seed pots from recycled materials and how to use the Seek app, to identify plants and animals. We’d love to see some photos of the plants as they grow, so send us pictures so we can share them here!

Plant in May – Broughton’s Growing and Cooking Project

Our Twitter Quiz is continuing this week, with more childhood pics of staff for you to identify!

That’s all for today’s update- remember this week’s VE day holiday on Friday means we’re only posting Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week!

Stay safe everyone!

Friday Feeling: Five tips to round up your week with a productive ...

Good morning everyone!

It’s Friday! Well done on making it to the end of another week in lockdown. We hope you are still managing to complete as much of your Home Learning as you can.

Remember we posted a link to a short survey we launched yesterday, so you can let us know how you are getting on. Follow the link here to complete it. It only takes a minute.

Remember that next week we will only be posting Home Learning on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is because of an in-service day on Monday, and a holiday on Friday. It’s P4’s first chance to access their learning through Teams! We hope you enjoy that, and let us know if you have any problems.

Mrs Martin has sent us some more great Art ideas. This week she’s suggesting ways to use recycled materials to create fab Artwork! See below for more…

Here’s another post from the WWF, with a new resource starting on Monday.

Starting Monday 4th May, we’ve provided fun daily activities to help your students connect with nature and learn more about our planet’s forests.
Our upcoming themed week will include live learning events via our new dedicated Facebook group (with recordings available on YouTube), links to our popular educational materials, and an opportunity to participate in a fun and insightful webinar with a WWF expert.

Follow the link to join the Facebook group- WWF Facebook Group

Remember that all of the Home Learning from before the Easter holidays is being removed from the website today, including some of this week’s videos. It’s your last chance to save or download a task you might want to keep if you particularly enjoyed it- although we have copies of everything saved too, so we can easily find things if need be!

Lastly, keep those guesses coming in for our Twitter Quiz- our throwback staff photos are priceless!

We wish you all a very happy weekend, and, as always, stay safe!

Wednesday 29th April

Happy Wednesday (SVG Cut file) by Creative Fabrica Crafts ...

Hello everyone, hope you are all keeping well!

It’s Wednesday already, and we’re halfway through another week of home learning! Hope you enjoy today’s tasks.

Our latest news comes in the form of our Hub School at Drummond High School. Yesterday it was Broughton staff’s turn to volunteer, and the Hub Team were visited by press from the Times Educational Supplement, who were writing an article about how the Hub schools work. You can read the article by clicking below!

TES Hub School Article

As our school closure continues, we are trying to think of ways to improve how we share your learning with you. In future you may notice that our teachers are starting to try and use more videos in their home learning, to try and move your learning forward. These videos will be available on Teams for those classes who use Teams, and also on the class website pages for those who do not use Teams.

As we mentioned yesterday, we will be regularly deleting previous home learning from class website pages , as videos can take up a lot of space on our website. As advised yesterday, if you see an activity or video you have found useful, you can save it or download it to your device if you can, as we will be deleting some videos at the end of each week, to make way for new learning.

Speaking of Teams, parents and carers of pupils in P4 should look out for an email later this week, with information, usernames and passwords to allow access to Teams starting next Tuesday 5th May.

Miss Bradley wants to inform Nursery parents that Learning Journals have updated the Parent Contribution page. Parents can now upload photos and documents to their child’s page of any home learning activities. We look forward to seeing those!

Our Twitter Throwback Quiz is proving to be quite tricky for some of you! Make sure to follow us to @Broughton_PS to play along!

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone! As always, stay safe!

Our Twitter Throwback Quiz continues today, and it’s proving to be a really tricky challenge! Guess the member of Broughton staff from their childhood picture.

We’d also like to let you know, that in order to free up space to add future content on to our website, we will be deleting all home learning tasks from before the Easter holidays, from class pages on our website, on Friday. If you have enjoyed a particular activity and would like to use it again, please take this opportunity to download or save it to your device before it is deleted.

That’s all for today folks, enjoy the rest of your day and as always, stay safe!

How To Transform 'Blue Monday' Into The Most Positive Day Of The Year

Hello everyone, and happy Monday to you all!

We hope you all had a nice weekend, and were able to enjoy the lovely weather, while observing social distancing obviously!

It’s the start of a new Home Learning week, with new weekly grids up on the class web pages. Also, today is the first day of P5 using Microsoft Teams to access their learning. We hope you enjoy using Teams, please let us know if you have any issues. Remember we posted guidance and videos on our website last week, so hopefully they can help you too. This week we will be setting up P4 to begin using Teams next week. Just to make you all aware, next week will be a shorter Home Learning week, due to the in-service day and May holiday in the calendar- so tasks will only be available Tuesday to Thursday next week.

Tomorrow Broughton staff will be attending the Hub School at Drummond, so it will be nice to see some familiar faces there! All our staff are commenting on how much we are missing seeing all the children face to face- we’re sure the feeling’s mutual!

Today also sees the start of our new Twitter Quiz. Each day will see a throwback photo of one of the Broughton staff when they were a child. All you have to do is guess who it is! This should be fun…

We have a couple of website ideas today. Firstly, RBS Moneysense have launched a free home learning resource for financial education.  Follow the link below to find out more-

Moneysense Home Learning

Also, Brittanica have launched a new Home Learning e-book, which can be downloaded to get advice on home schooling, gain access to award-winning digital resources, and a range of ready-made activities to support children of all ages and abilities. Follow the link below for more-
